I'd be interested in how he's going to expand his base. I think the only way to do it is promote Constitutional stances. If America learned anything this week, it's the Republicans need to distance themselves from compassionate conservatism. In other words, the exact opposite direction of G.W. Bush.

    Expect the Libertarians to grow.

Not gonna play, Mitch. You can be the board's contrarian, if you wish.

But I'm going to be watching Mr. Steele. He's against E.S.C. research and that's good. But he's all "rah, rah, rah" on the war, and he's all about racial quotas in everything, I'm not all that excited about this pick.

You have misunderstood. I just asked how you think Libertarians are expected to grow. Nothing contrarian about that.

I think Steele is a lot like Bush, and Bush causes several of us to jump the GOP ship, didn't he ?

Could you explain? I don't know a lot about this guy, but from what I've read he seems pretty conservative. Pro-life, pro second ammendment, lower taxes, against universal health care, against gay marriage, wants to privatize SS, opposes amnesty for illegal aliens.

The only things I see that you might consider liberal are opposing the death sentence (which in my eyes is a good thing...I'm pro-ALL-life) and his views on affirmative action.

Could you elaborate on how he is a liberal? I'm seriously interested.

He is big spender just like Bush. And he wants to cater to "moderates" liberal lite. Which means compromising core principles.

Can you give examples of excessive spending? Examples of compromising core principles?

No, I'd like examples of how Steele has done those things. You said he's a big spender. Can you give examples of that? How has he compromised core principles and what core principles were they?

I'd like examples, too. I have been impressed with him when I've seen him on FNC.

I don't care what you would like. Watch his interviews on television and see what he supports.

Well look he is against over turning roe v wade, he is for all forms of affirmative action, and all the GOP talks a good game when it comes to smaller government but the last eight years has proved otherwise. The recent vote against the so called stimulus while refreshing is suspect at this point. It most certainly cannot be about smaller government or the budget deficit since there has been no concern for it over the last eight years.

You're right. Looks like another lib (wolf) dressed in a conservative (sheep) cloak. :tear: I give him a big NIX.

I certainly hope that if a member of your congregation asked you a question about something you talked about that you don't treat them the same way. I don't know if you are having a bad day, don't like me, or just in general have a pitiful attitude. In any case, I'll pray for you.

I have watched Michael Steele for several years on Fox news. I think he is very conservative and will be good for the Republican Party.
