Welcome to Tea Room # 8!

Sit down, have a cup of tea - and enjoy the conversation!

I trust everyone will have to great day - and good weather.

In Canisteo, NY - we are currently having freezing rain - which will soon turn to snow - which will make it slippery and dangerous!

Oh how I wish Jim would keep this unlovely weather up in Canada!

I haven't been on line the past two days!

I just found 131 emails in my in basket - I looked at about nine of them!

The rest was just spam! And I'm not talking about the luncheon meat either!

Gmail puts all that stuff in a spam folder.

You click "select all" - then "delete" wonderful function. In six months I have maybe a 1/2 dozen spams slip into my inbox.

We still have blue skies and sunshine here but the wind is getting up again after dying down a little at lunchtime.

We seemed to have got thru the OTR 7 pretty quickly. What a chatty lot we are.

Going back to my studies now...reading chapter 9 of Vatican II ....

Sorry, Dan. New Yrokers want a piece of Canada and when we send it, we have to engage a border guard against invasion. More snow coming to-day.

It is rather mild here to-day, but it is snowing.

I have a program caled postini which isolates all the junk email. I have seen as many as 400 in there. Even if I leave it alone, it gets deleted in two weeks. The odd good email gets lost in there and I dare to check the list, but most times I just press delete. Viruses are separated in a file and deleted straight off.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Good Morning to you all on this Lord's Day. I hope all who look in here are well.

It is not quite as windy here as it was yesterday, when it was really howling.

I am off now for my quiet time before getting ready for church. I will look in later,

    God Bless

Getting things sorted out - our refuse collection charges went way up this year so I have been sorting out alternatives. Went and bought a compost bin from the county council. While I was doing my bit I took the Christmas tree to a recycle centre.

Working on Carpenters Chapel devotions because when I take Beth to the airport Wednesday I collect a family who will be staying here for two weeks. They are our future co-workers so this is an important time for us.

I'd love to garden again but cannot overcome this red clay! Very little that I've planted has survived or thrived. ONE butterfly bush is quite large and a few vines are alive. The Crepe Myrtles I planted when we first moved in are still stunted and small when they should be very large. I was so successful in Connecticut's black soil.

Money's also an issue. We had money to spend on plants back 10-15 years ago but don't now. I'd love to have one of those backyard makeovers where they'd come and put down sod or create some wildflower areas. Consider that our back yard is 1/2 acre with lots of trees.

Of course, with our mosquito problem here, we'd not be able to enjoy it as we should. Hope Nick outgrows his allergy soon. His insurance will not pay for his two medicines now so we've had to take him off them. They're VERY expensive.

    Hi Diane.

I would be lost without my garden. We have lost some panes of glass in the greenhouse due to the storms we have had the past few days. Appently there is more to come.

Well, I just can't seem to keep away from hospitals at the moment. A dear friend from uni is in hospital after suffering a ruptured appendix.

Sam's making a cup of coffee...so I mustn't miss out on this. LOL.

    Be Back Later

I've tried houseplants but they don't satisfy me like digging in black soil did. Now THAT was a religious experience! This Georgia red clay really irks me!

We compost our leaves. There was a spot in our back yard where the builders pushed the dirt from the basement up but not into this area with dense trees. That spot was much lower so we started 5 years ago, filling in with leaves. It LOOKS level but if you step onto the leaves you'll see there's still a drop off. We have LOTS Of leaves this year but just haven't had the time to get them blown over. We still have a lot of leaves on the trees too!

We pay $14. a month for garbage pick up once a week. We take our cardboard, etc. to a dump/ recycling center that's about 20 miles ONE WAY from here. Our trashmen don't recycle. Jim made 2 trips right after Christmas for us. We have a few odd things like a cracked fishtank. It's too badly broken to be used even for a reptile. Someone might get hurt!

I've had a compost pile for over twenty years - it grows a fine crop of weeds!

    Thank you Adam and Eve!

Dan - had a few vegetables come up through the weeds this year!

Sounds like your compost isn't getting hot enough to break down all the material you are putting on it. It is a compost, not a propogator!! :D
