What position to do you hold in your church. I know some may hold more than one, but just vote for one

Attendance Keeper. I make attendance sheets for people to sign each service and then check off names on my master list (which is constantly changing) so that hopefully when someone misses a couple of weeks or so, we can contact them and they don't fall through the cracks and think no one cares about them.

That is commendable... how big or small is your church?

About 200 adults. I don't keep up with the children because they are in childrens' church usually.

When we started this (about 7 months ago) the name list was woefully outdated and it has been a struggle to narrow the list down to those who come on a regular basis (not neccessarily every week, but regular). It's impossible to keep up with people who only come a couple of times a year.

It's also been hard to get everyone to cooperate and sign the list, but they're getting the hang of it now.

I put a special column on the sheet for visitors to sign with their phone and address and we use this to send out notes from the pastor thanking them for coming.

If anyone else here does this, I would greatly appreciate ideas that might help me to do a better job.

    Elder.

Since "pastor" is used only 1 time in the NT to describe a small portion of what an Elder does, I prefer that term.

To those not as picky, you'd move my vote to "Pastor" since I am the teaching elder who preaches, etc.

I use a shepherds book... a journal in which I have every family listed, and each week, Sunday afternoon, I look throught the Journal to make a list of everyone that was in church that Sunday...

This is divided up by families, this also is a way for me to keep track of needs in the families... I write little sticky notes with the needs, and put them on the pages...
That way, through the week, I can visit, call, email, IM, the ones that have missed a few Sundays in a row... (I give them 2 Sundays, before I contact... Noone likes a pestering pastor!... If they are sick, they now call me, after I have drilled it in their head that I am not a mind reader, and they need to let me know if they are sick)

Or if someone has a special need, I sticky it at that time too, so I can meet that need that week....

I found it to be easier to divide them up into families, than a list of everyone...
It also is a good mental exercise as I try to picture who was at church Sunday morning, and who wasn't...

If all regulars would come at one time, we would have 95 now...

Deacon, Teacher, and Preacher. Actually Teaching and Preaching are part of being a Deacon, however in a lot (maybe even most) churches the Deacons don't help the Pastor in this way.
