I firmly believe that darker side is where we're headed. I believe we (Body of Christ) MUST keep fighting for the principals God has laid on us. As long as we're here, the Holy Spirit uses us as a restraint against the evil that is increasing. We know that the time of tribulation is coming, and that is decidedly NOT a good moral direction.

 

Look at the incredible inroads the homosexual agenda has made. The intellectual elite have embraced it wholeheartedly, and it's starting to be force fed to our children in public school.

See how the murder of our unborn is all but decided, for death. If a democrat president is elected, it's completely decided.

Look at the outcry against fighting Islam, who has prominently declared its intention to destroy everyone outside its religion.

 

It is unbelievable how far down this road we have come in the past 40 or so years. Things have gotten so bad, we have long forgotten the days when the Democrats had some similance of morality, such as Truman. Over the years, it has progressed to the point that in the last 7 or so years, the Republican party has followed in lock step with the trend. The anger from Christians is presently directed at the Republicans, because, not many years ago, they also had a framework of morality. That has radically changed as of late.

The dilemma Christians find themselves in is that there is no one to vote or fight for. Since both major parties that have any chance of winning are totally debased, it will take a miracle of God to turn it around. There is no longer any viable alternative to greed, corruption, and immorality.

 

Sure there is - the Libertarian Party.

I am always interested when people take the position that "socialism" is bad and "free markets" are good. I suspect that Jesus would strongly prefer a socialist ordering to society and would have strong words against unfettered free markets. I suspec that American cultural values are once again being mixed up with Scriptural ones.

I see plenty of Scriptural rebuke regarding the "almighty dollar" being the end-all, be-all goal of pursuit. But I don't see anywhere that encourages a socialist model.

 

True. The Holy Scriptures don't endorse or condemn any particular political system or any particular economic system.

 

I disagree. God gave Israel Judges, not Kings, a clear signal that God endorses personal responsibility, with limited government powers.

Sound to me that the Bible is saying that without a king that there was anarchy. And reading the book of Judges it definitely appears that there was anarchy without a king. Of course, God was King over ancient Israel but they rejected Him.

1 Samuel 8:7 (ESV)
And the Lord said to Samuel, "Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.

Of course, ancient Israel was a theocracy. And other than extremists such as the Muslim mullahs in Iran no one endorses the idea of a theocracy today.
