//The triquata, triqueta, triquesta, or whatever form
of the word is used is sold as jewelry for the wiccans
It is an occultic symbol. Why defend it?//

The symbol is a Christian Symbol, why use it to
bash the Inerrant Written Word of God as found in the
    New King James Version (nKJV)?

//and how do you know that they were not pagan first?//

Actually the Wiccian Pagans ripped off the Blessed Trinity from
the Christians and the symbol as well.
Here is the Wiccian Pagan greeting: "Triple Blessings".
I want my Christian Symbols back,
the Pagans can't have my Symbols.
I don't appreciate these alien religions infiltrating
Christianity with their symbol stealing, marauding ways. :-(

This is my area of ministry -- the belief in the triple Goddess is relatively recent. It's not an ancient belief. The religion of witchcraft started in the 20th century.

There is a generic witchcraft which is a word that, until the modern religion of Witchcraft came along, was used to refer to general occult practices (like casting spells, using magical potions, etc.).

The image of the Triple Goddess was developed by Robert Graves in his book , The White Goddess , which came out in 1948. This is one of the ideas used by Gerald Gardner, founder of the modern Wicca/Witchraft religion. So if this symbol existed before the late 1940's, then it could not have symbolized the maiden, mother, crone triple goddess.

There is no evidence for ancient goddess worship other than goddesses being worshipped as consorts of gods.

It is likely that Wiccans are claiming the Triquestra as a symbol for the Triple Goddess, but it is probably a recent development.

This Atlantic Monthly article delves into that and mentions some other sources on it.

Ransom: //It's interesting that you prefer the testimony of anonymous
pagans over that of Bible believers. Speaks volumes, in fact.//

Amen, Brother Ransom -- Preach it! [IMG]
That does speak volumes LOUDLY :-(

Another thing that speaks volumes is the post on
page 2 were Ransom shows a naturally occuring Triquesta.
That post is unanswered, the silence speaks volumes.

    Amazing!

Witchcraft started back in the 20th Century? Then Saul did not have a witch summon up Samuel? And why in the world was a witchcraft mentioned in the Old Testament?

There have been pagan idols, gods and goddesses spoken of by the prophets throughout the Old and New Testaments, yet I guess they never existed either.

    Amazing.

I believe you missed Marcia's excellent point completely, SFIC. Did you read the article she linked to? Wicca is not a traditional witchcraft religion (of which there have been many), but a modern, made-up witchcraft religion.

I have always taken the old "New-age Bible" theory with a huge bucket of salt. It is impossible to translate the Bible and get it out to the people and remain a New-ager. Furthermore, I find it essentially ridiculous to think that New-agers could by any stretch of the imagination want to promote the NKJV or any other Bible.

Surely even you must admit that it is impossible for someone to read the NKJV seriously and then come out a New-ager!! Ridiculous thought!! [IMG]

I have even heard some people say that that NKJV translators where new agers, but when you look at the men who were on the team, they were all conservative Bible scholars.

Marcia, a Christian expert on witchcraft and the history of
    witchcraft says:

//This is my area of ministry -- the belief in the triple Goddess is relatively recent. It's not an ancient belief. The religion of witchcraft started in the 20th century.//

//There is a generic witchcraft which is a word that, until the modern religion of Witchcraft came along, was used to refer to general occult practices (like casting spells, using magical potions, etc.).//

    I repeat a portion:
Marcia: // The religion of witchcraft started in the 20th century.

    Conclusion jumpted to:
//Witchcraft started back in the 20th Century? //

The is now a Chrisitan was a Pagan said
RELIGION OF WITCHCRAFT; the conclusion jumper
said WITCHCRAFT. There is a difference.
Under the laws in the USofA, usually state laws, one can register
their .religion' The religion named "Wicca" was registered in the
USofA for religion protection under the 1st ammendment.
    The religion is witchcraft.

This religion uses magic. Magic (except the slight of hand type)
is an attempt to speak to the gods (actually deamons) and get them
to do your bidding. Needless to say, magic is counter to everything
    Christian :(

Ed notes that more is known about the
translators of the New King James Version
(nKJV) than is known about the mystery
'respellers' who changed the KJV1611 Edition
    into the KJV1769 Edtion.

How much do you want to bet that SFIC has no problem with the sun symbol that appears at the top of the original title page of the King James Bible, despite its use by Mormons and Freemasons?

SFIC, throughout this whole thread no one has stood with you. I will stand with you and on the fact of this symbol being pagan, no matter how much it is defended. I believe the sky is blue because it is, no matter how many try to say different. Yes brother, these symbols can have power over saved people just like any other sin. The Bema seat judgement will finally vindicate your stance.

Live up to your user name and having done all, stand!

SFIC, did you read what others said explaining my post?

There is no Hebrew word for witchcraft because such a concept did not exist then - the Hebrew words translated as "witchcraft" usually meant poisoner, enchanter, or diviner. Those Hebrew words do not translate one on one into English because the cultural practices of the occult sometimes vary and overlap.

The words used for "witchcraft" refer to generic occult practices. In other words, for a long time, the word "witch" meant someone who practices occult arts (and in some culture, the word is still used that way today), not a religion.

However, the modern religion of Witchcraft started in the 20th century. Those who started it claimed they were reviving the ancient religions of witchcraft, but no such ancient religion existed.

The worship of gods and goddesses did exist in the OT - but that was not the same as modern Witchcraft though there is similarity in that both often worship many godes. The concept of the Triple Goddess came about in the 1940's as I explained.

So we are talking about 3 things here:
    1. OT pagan worship of many gods
    2. The generic practice of witchcraft, which means various occult practices (casting spells, magical potions, spirit contact, etc).
    3. The modern religion of Witchcraft (also called Wicca) which started in the 20th century. Although modern Witches do practice some occult practices, what is identified today as the religion of Witchcraft, along with their symbols, did not exist as such before the 20th century.

It is confusing and I hope I explained it.

We are not to be ignorant of satans devices, and yet, so many are deceived to believe that that which is associated with satan can be used in God's church.

We must take our eyes off of the things of this world. Christ is not in them.

The Bible says to look to Jesus; one can claim to see the Trinity in that unholy symbol all they wish, but the truth of the matter is, He is not there... nor will He ever be.

Who's ignorant? Your ravings have been tested (1 Thess. 5:21) and found to be without merit.

SFIC, a symbol is manmade -- so it means what whoever uses the symbol decides. The meaning is determined by usage in the culture and time.

Unicorns, the phoenix, griffins and other fantasy creatures, for example, were used at one time by occultists as alchmemy symbols, but were also used later as Christian symbols.

Who's to say what a triquestra symbolizes? This symbol existed before some modern Witches decided it represents the triple goddess. I bet you will find a lot of modern Witches/Wiccans who have no idea what it is and who might even not agree what it represents! They don't agree on much, you know. They cannot even agree on a definition of Witchcraft and what it is.

I do agree that when a symbol takes on an occult meaning, that Christians then should take care in using it. For example, the pentagram once symbolized the 5 wounds of Christ but is now used by Witches. Personally, I would not wear a pentagram because it would be interpreted as representing Witchcraft or Wicca.

The Triquestra, however, was used to represent the Trinity before some Witches decided to use it for the Triple Goddess. So when it was used on the Bible, at that time, it represented the Trinity.

ahhh, but the triquestra was seen on tarot cards before it was seen on the nkjv.

So that takes it back once again to the devil's camp.
