This is the motto of the Baptist Board that the truth shall set you free... But what truth sets you free?... And is there only one truth or is there the absolute truth and many truths within the absolute?... Many brethren on here say that their interpretation of scripture is the truth but does not the truth stand in its various interpretations of the working of the absolute truth according to the various applications of that truth or truths?

The extension of the scripture is that if the Son shall set you free ye shall be free indeed. So that being known then the Godhead is that absolute truth... Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that not only sets us free in this world but in the world to come. Does not the truth stand on its own even though there is a misapplication of that truth? Isims and shisms may rise and fall but the truth is never diminished in any way even though the various applications of those truths may. Since that is the nature of truth to show the true workings of God and not man.

If you go to the Calvin/Arminian Forum you will see brethren discussing truth from various train of thought and doctrine. Put in it's proper application it is all truth as scripture is all truth. What happens if a scripture contradicts another scripture does it cease to be the truth or is the interpretation and application in error?
If scripture gives glory to God it is truth but if it takes glory from God and gives it to man would it not cease to be truth seeing it takes due glory and honor from the absolute truth?

Apostle Peter in answering Jesus said of a truth thou art the Son of God... We know according to scripture the Jesus Christ is... The Way... The Truth... and the Life... There is no way to get to heaven any other way... That truth is absolute and does not change and according to scripture... I am God I change not therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

In the Primitive Baptist Church to which I have been a member for 35 years a favorite song among the brethren is Amazing Grace... Amazing grace... How sweet the sound... That saved a wretch like me... I once was lost but now I'm found... Was blind but now I see... And that brethren to a hellbound sinner is the absolute truth that sets us all free!... Jesus said " I am the Truth, The Way,The life"
I believe the truth spoken of in John 8 is no other then Jesus Christ Himself.

He IS the only truth that sets us free !! [IMG] :D

It is, perhaps, important to remember that verse in its full context, as the context severely limits what is being talked about:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. THEN you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

The fact is that the truth is not freeing to everyone. To the person who prefers rebellion against God it is a threat and an enslavement. It is only when we are true disciples of Christ, holding to His teaching, that we CAN know the truth and thus be set free by it.

At least, that is what Jesus is saying... [IMG]

He explains Himself a bit a few verses later (you will find all this in John 8, starting with verse 31 for the above quote), saying

"I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
