Okay, you think that a less accurate translation is conservative --that obscurity and awkwardness of language is the best way to translate.

No, think that the way that gives to us what the original author meant and said is the best one to use, and to me that would be formal/literal...

What the original author said --and meant may not be the same thing.

For instance most idioms say one thing, but mean something else.

My kids use the NLT second ed. and the NIV reader's ed. I like reading and memorizing from the Chinese Union version, but that wasn't on the list.

The NIrV is ideal for youger children. The older ones would benefit from the NLTse.

Is that the simplified Chinese,or traditional?

Have you seen the Revised Chinese Union version of 2010?

I would say that the poll does not reflect the consensus of mainstream, conservative Christians in America and Canada.

I had a difficult time also. I use the NASV and ESV most often (also the KJV and NIV). Looking at my study notes, I suppose the NASV is my preference.

It's the simplified version, which is what all the mainland people use.

I bought the Revised CUV for my Bible software but never use it with Christians. You think American KJVO is bad? You should see Chinese CUV only people (basically 80 million strong). It makes no difference that it's based on the Westcott-Hort text for the most part. I stopped fighting that battle long ago. The Chinese church already has too much division as it is.

I am ESV mostly but still will use my 84NIV as well. KJV for when the kids are doing school since that is what BJU uses and I like their homeschool materials.
