So, basically, if we were more spiritual ("Go before the Lord in prayer and fasting"), then we would understand the KJV, and not need any other translation?

Sorry, sis, but that is just plain poppycock.

You say that you have no problem reading the KJV. Great. But that is all you have ever read, by your own admission. But not everyone attends a church that condemns you if you read a different translation (thankfully).

Although most KJVOnlyists on this Board claim that the KJV is on a 5th grade reading level, it is not. According to the Department of Education, it is on the 13th grade level...college reading level.

And, guess what? Most Americans cannot read at that level with comprehension. Does that mean that they cannot use the KJV and still understand? Absolutely not. But to comprehend what they read, they will have to raise their reading skills...which, if they continue reading the KJV, they will (plus they will become accustomed to the 17th century venacular). And, if they invest in a bible handbook or dictionary, they will even understand the archaic words.

My point? An unbeliever who wants to read a bible for himself needs something he can understand. Something that he is able to comprehend RIGHT NOW, by himself, without a dictionary or a preacher.

I can hear the retort now..."Well, I didn't, and I understood!" Well, praise the Lord, but you ain't everybody.

The King James is a fine translation, but it is not the only one. Nor is it alone "God's Words". God has allowed many translations in order to make His word better understood, and more accessable. End of story.

    In Christ,
