The only group it is OK to bash. In this politically correct society we find ourselves in, there is still one group of people that you can bash, make fun of, castigate, lie about, and make the butt of any joke without fear of repercussions....born-again Christians.

I was somewhat amused as I watched the news recently about the reports that sports teams like the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Redskins that may have to change their nicknames after all of these years due to the outrage of some Native American groups of how it puts them in a bad light. Many colleges that had Native American nicknames have recently changed for this reason.

Women's groups are incensed when they feel people are not being "gender correct" in their speech. This has even been an issue in some of our
churches with the anointed old hymns of our faith being re-written.

Pro-homosexual groups will mount incredible campaigns against anyone or any organization
that even dares to call their chosen lifestyle an abomination, which by the way is what God calls it.

I am NOT commenting on the merits of these examples I use, so don't misunderstand me. I am simply using them to show you the one group that our society has deemed OK to bash and trash with
    no repercussions are born-again Christians.

So you understand why this is so, you have to understand a couple of points. First, the Bible clearly tells us that the Gospel is offensive to the unbeliever. Regardless the stats Barna or any other pollster may tell us, people who are
born-again, committed in their walk with Christ make-up a very small percentage of our society. There are lots of people who may sit in pews on Sunday morning, but the actual number of people who have committed their lives to Christ by
faith is a small percentage of our society. Secondly, it is probably one of the most
ineffective "groups" in our society at getting their message out.

For years I have studied the pro-gay movement and how effective they have been at getting their
message to the general public. Their propaganda machine has convinced most that over 10% in this country are gay, when the actual number is only about 1%.

In the meantime, the Christian community has been very weak in taking its message of hope and love through God's Son Jesus Christ to the public at
large. We have broken ourselves off into so many different denominations and factions that our voice is little more than a whisper over the din of public debate. Because of the hardened hearts of sinful men, and our own ineffectiveness to
articulate our message to the masses, we are an easy target.

When people reject our message, they are not
rejecting us, but God. So don't ever take it personally. We are simply instruments God is using to bring His Word to the world. Even though the world may take great delight in their bashing of born-again Christians, the fact is, they are to be pitied. As those who possess the real Truth of what this life is all about, we realize that we are not citizens of this world,
we are simply passing through. Our citizenship is in Heaven.

Those of this world have been blinded by sin and have rejected the Truth of God's Word and have bought into the lie of the enemy. That is sad since God never intended His creation to not spend eternity with Him. Hell was created for
satan and his fallen angels. It was NEVER a place for man to spend his eternity. Sadly, those who reject Him will not be forever reunited with their Creator, but destined to eternal separation. As Christians, knowing Christ died for the sins of ALL man, we should pray for those who mock Christians, who have rejected Christ since we know the penalty of that rejection.

This also should encourage people to be even more bold in their Christian life. In the midst of this journey, Jesus Christ is the one and only answer to the bumps in the road we all face. The window is open, NOW is the time to take this message to the world at large in ways never done before.

Many of you get so upset about the way Christians are portrayed and treated. Be of good cheer, our Lord has overcome this world. We have a higher calling. Being ridiculed, even persecuted for our message is part of it. Jesus was crucified for simply sharing the love of God. Stephen was stoned for simply telling people Jesus was the way, the truth, the life! As both Jesus and Stephen did, let us pray for those who bash Christians, since they simply don't know what they
    are doing.

At the same time, let us be even more diligent about taking our message of life to this sin-filled and dying world. The more they bash us,
the better we must be doing. If we were not being effective, the enemy would not be concerned.

    Jeremiah 6:10, Proverbs 29:18

Yep, and it's especially okay to bash funnymentalists. In fact, it's quite popular. Because funnymentalists are a cult. Why that's been pointed out right here on the Baptist Board. :(

PS: The first & only time I've ever heard the word "funnymentalists" used was here on this Board. And I didn't think it was funny. :(

I've never heard that term either, SheEagle9/11, until a few days ago on this board.

Good post, Sue. But scripture does tell us we'll be persecuted for HIS NAME SAKE. [IMG] Who would have thunk it would be from other 'christian's'... (little c intended).

I too get fed up with the hypocrisy and cant that is peddled by our supposedly secular society (actually not secular, just every religious belief apart from Christian) - it seems it is perfectly alright to talk about what star sign you are, New Age fads, or UFOs, but the moment you mention you're a Christian, run for cover.

Twas always ever thus, though, I suspect...

    Yours in Christ

That's todays relativism for you, "We can't know anything for sure...except that Christianity is wrong..."

I like that line in the movie A Few Good Men "I believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ..." spoken by Keifer Sutherland's character, the bad guy of course.

Probably the earliest example I can remember on the screen was watching Return of the Jedi as a kid about a thousand years or so ago...Obi Wan's "certain point of view" speech.

This thread is the first time I have heard the term "funnymentalist", I have to admit I do like it [IMG] I would rather be a "funnymentalist" than an "un real relativist" [IMG]

Of course society as a whole is going to reject us and the Gospel we try to represent. We are of the Spirit but we are in the flesh. Very few of the Epistles do not mention this struggle within ourselves and within our world. Man is bent towards the flesh.

Peter gave us specific instructions on this matter. His audience was being killed over the matter. Name calling and rejection is a pretty mild form of persecution when it comes down to brass tacks, folks.

That's the trick -- gentleness and respect. Lashing back is also of the flesh. The flesh is a trap, our predisposition, and when we fall into it, we are removed from the Spirit.

I agree, Clint. Difficult though I find it, we must come in the opposite spirit to that of the world.

This delusion of persecution by some Christians ... I don't understand.

What city of any size doesn't have at least 3 radio stations broadcasting some variant of Christianity 24 x 7? Who of us have truly been persecuted? Christians are freer to practice our religion in the USA as we see fit than in most nations around the world. And why is that? It is because of the separation of Church & State.

Neutrality toward religion is NOT anti-religion. If we want our rights respected, we must respect the rights of others to believe as they will, even tho it be contrary to our own beliefs & values.

    I'll tell ya Bill,

it is only going to get worse for we are going to be put to death for our belief in the very near future as many brothers and sisters in "Third world countries" already are.

We are so very close to the time where anti-Christ is to appear, that if I werent in Christ I would be in great fear.

look how close we are, these are things that are in the papers everyday:

    1)New World order
    2)One Religion
    3)One currency
    4)Making Christianity a hate crime
    5)The European Union
    6)The Roadmap for peace

The list is endless. We as partakers of the same body need to reach out to the lost more than ever before, and we will be persecuted.

But Jesus tells us to rejoyce and be glad because we are of the Kingdom of Heaven and great is our reward. Matt 5:10-12

Christ is coming soon and we are to encourage each other in these words. Praise the Lord! for He has overcome the evil one. And by His victory and through His name, we have also obtained victory. God Bless

"...Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's." 2 Chron 20:15b

I agree with Clint... How many on this board would be willing to lay their life on the line if it came down to that?... I good book I would recommend would be John Foxes Book Of Martyrs when you feel you are so persecuted!... I'm the moderator of the Baptist History Forum... You Baptist need to check out your history and see what group bashing and persecution really is!... Question is... WOULD YOU AND COULD YOU DIE FOR THE CHRIST THAT DIED FOR YOU?... In all reality I can't give you my answer because I don't know until the time came!... Would you renounce your God and Christ if they tortured your loved ones in front of your face to get to you?... These are not fantasy Christians and Baptist these are hard facts... Bashing is one thing... Dying for what you believe is another... Do you have the grace to die for your God... Are you a Bible or Blood Christian... Would you give your lifes blood for your belief... Other have in the past would you and could you?... So before you go bashing another group think of what I said because one day your very life my depend on it!... It has happened before and it can happen again!... The only question is when?... The problems with Christianity is that we have so many prominent Christians who openly bash others, and have done so for so long, that imo, we're now getting what we deserve. Jesus says we reap wat we sow. Perhaps by us getting bashed, we'll develop a greater understanding for what it's like when we think about doing it to others.

YOu see, it's like this: if some people don't get 100% of the "theocracy" they wish to have in this country then, HORRORS!, the "END" must be near.

Brother Glen, all I can say is yet another great post from yourself, and can only answer the questions you asked with "I pray so..."
