That is how it is in some, maybe all, European countries. My wife tried waitressing, so we tend to be good tippers. We have known some professing Christians who think leaving a tract equals leaving a tip.

But that aside, it would be good for those who wait tables where people tend to run you ragged and then don't leave any tip. But it could also lead to bad service. I can't say how I would tip, I would be more likely to leave little or no tip when service was bad though. Even now, if service is bad, I just leave 15%.

That's the point of the new law - so they are at full minimum wage
So what % would you give?

I would probably be tipping around 5-10% if they were paid minimum wage.

This is repugnant to my soul.....why are people paid less than a living wage and reliant on the condescension of their clients.....no wonder people gallop off to join extremist groups promising equity.....wicked wicked wicked I say. One step closer to indentured servants.....

Who....the client or the worker? I would wonder if that is so in regards the worker, do they have a choice?

Wow. Never been a server, huh? I have. I loved it. I made about $14/hr in tips. If someone didn't tip me well, I remembered. Next time they came in, they got the service their last tip warranted.

Wait staff has always been paid this way and everyone I know who applied for a wait staff job did so because of the excellent pay. They make DARNED good money!

Good to hear that the people waiting on tables actually enjoyed it and got good money! It is offensive to my mind and it is not the way things are done in my part of the world....call it a cultural difference! If I have offended anyone I apologise, it is sooo different!

Bless as God has blessed--put your treasure in heaven--no hackers there.

Noticed: tips were appreciated in eateries in Melbourne, Australia, circa 1966, long before Big Mac. This was evident in the countryside as well.

Also noticed here is a certain Mama San control in the oriental restaurants--nothing new. When the tax system gets done, there is not much left for bread. Exploitation comes in many flavors. J.P.M. would be proud.

Affluence and poverty make one stingy--human nature.

It all belongs to God. Now what?

    Jesus gave it all.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

You surprise me Bro. James but it was not an widely accepted practice.....Victorians are a weird mob......
Of course , it may have been reserved for folk with American accents as well.

    Much more common place now!
