    DeaconLew:

How many can you name personally who's living for Jesus Christ because of your life? How many have you discipled whose living for Jesus Christ and discipling others who are discipling others who are discipling others. If you cannot name any then you are in sin and disobedient according to Mt. 28:19, 20.

Since this has shifted off of the original topic and become a debate on the evils of TV - I am moving this to the "General Baptist Forum".

I don't know what programs you are referring to, 700 Club? But who wants to reach into a bag of broken glass looking for jelly beans? If you use a TIVO to harvest good programming off the air, then thank God. But I have found the television to be more of a temptation than a blessing. There are beter ways to get edification.

"Luke 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things."
Bunch of lying, sin lovin' God dishonoring, filth watching, disobedient christian HIPOCRITES!!
There's nothing wrong with shows like Clean Sweep.. If you had ever watched it you would know it is a show where a team goes in and teaches people how to organize their homes showing them ways to purge and how to store what they don't purge. It's on The Learning Channel. Also as to the CSI shows, I watch them because I like watching shows about forensics and how they take even the smallest thread and are able to find out where it comes from. If I had a stronger stomach, I might have gone into forensics to help solve crimes. I see nothing wrong watching a show like that. I am not watching filth as you call it. I am selective in what I watch... I let the Lord guide me... if I feel convicted I don't watch it... hubby will tell you that. We disagree on some shows - like That 70's Show which I refuse to watch and he still does. The Lord convicted me of watching it and I don't.

I don't feel you have the right to judge me because you don't know me. The Bible does say that we are not to judge in Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:

Yep, I am told there are about one million internet sites on the internet.

But I think any kind of technology can be used for good or bad. You can use gasoline top put in your car to drive to church or to drive to some place that is not good.

I don't hear much about those who support Islam by the gas they buy. Much of the oil we buy comes from the Middle East which is primarily muslims.

Some of us are quite capable of monitoring what we and our children watch and there are many educational and religious programs available for viewing.

FYI, the Internet is a bigger 'sewer of filth' than TV ever thought about being - yet we are still here.

Could it be we don't go where the broken glass is, but use the Internet for the jelly beans?

Sue, I see your point. I personally have to use the internet for work, or you might not have ever met me. There is a difference though. I can use the internet as a medium to spread a message. The television only goes one way. I can choose what I view on the internet. I can turn off images if I want, and only see text. Television is nothing but images, and I have no control over them other than the channel that I am looking at.

    Back to the origional topic

Tivo is one of the greatest inventions ever - and possibly the best invention for a commited male sports lover! Ok women can grow to like it as well. An enev better invention is the two tuner Tivo - I have it with my Direct TV record on one chanel watch another - or record two shows at the same time while watching a previously recorded show.

I never start watching a cowboy game until it is 30 min into the game - by the time the game ends I am caught up and did not see a single commercial! No worries if the pastor goes long on sunday, sunday dinner can be long and TV free. I can record the sunday news shows, O reilley factor or hardball and stay as up to date on polotics.

During the debates we have a bunch of people over and will rate or discuss the answers given - real time - while we have the debates paused - and then resume to watch the complete debate.

We only watch what we want to watch, when we want to watch it, commercial free.

No to those that dont watch TV at all - go for it, I applaud you and the commitment that you have made. But as for me, I would sooner give up my guns than give up my Tivo

Wow, another hijacked thread on the Baptist Board. Imagine that. Personally, if you don't like or want to watch TV or Tivo then don't. However, for you to speak evil of me because I do, then you are way off base. You are just plain wrong to question my dedication to Christ just because I have a TV or DVD player or whatever. I know what is good to watch and what is not - it is called discernment.

I don't understand why anyone would come into the DEBATE forum and post 'Guess what I'm getting for my birthday!' Surely there is a better forum for that? I think I saw a Baptist TV Addicts forum under the Gumdrops and Lollipops section.

This didn't start in a debate forum. Someone took upon themselves to troll it and turn into one.

Baptists can be so self-righteously judgmental against each other sowing discord among the brethren. Makes me want to puke.

I left out a few words from the posting I made. It should have read.
Yep, I am told there are about one million pornographic internet sites on the web.
