I don't know Tony Snow's position on illegal immigration phds. However, here's an interview with Snow and Ingraham and it is not light on spin nor comical relief.

You make a great point about how this is verified.

Howver, when you consider that in most countries, you merely have to write a dissertation for a Ph.D., and you can enter these programs after a bachelor's degree, I wouldn't find it all too hard to believe. I can rattle off a pretty long list of folks I know in this situation, and remember that illegals come from other places than Mexico, where stereotypically people feel these folks are uneducated.

 

Given enough time, perhaps they could get to 40%. Maybe we are not being patient enough...

They really want to push this 'tamper-proof' ID, which Lars Larson correctly points out would do no good if everyone doesn't have to have one... so here comes your national ID.

 

But in those countries, the dissertation is years of full time study and mentorship. It is different than American Ph D in that it doesn't require as many classes. But the writing process is much different.

 

Not really. Some of the South African, British and Australian schools that I looked at for Ph.D. studies required only about a year or two at the most for a Ph.D. dissertation, and once your proposal was accepted, you wrote your doc and that was that.

 

The British schools I looked at were very intense studies, and most required a MPhil prior to starting the dissertation .None of whichi s relevant since 40% of illegals are doing their educational work anywhere.

 

I know. Sometimes I think of something to say and it comes out completely wrong. I do think Tony has bought in to the argument from GWB that these illegal aliens, (Tony called them Americans, another faux pas) somehow are indispensable to American businesses, and are needing authentication. Problem is, it comes out amnesty, which is unacceptable to Americans.

I don't think there is an acceptable resolution to this dilemma, except incrementally, one step at a time, beginning with border security.

And it is wrecking havoc on the GOP.
