The Puritans allowed for works of 'mercy' and 'necessity' to be undertaken on the Lord's day (c.f. Luke 13:15 etc.). Mrs Salty's work would seem to qualify on both counts. :)

We have a Care Home worker as a Deacon in our church. He works about one Lord's day in three.

My church, while indy fundy Baptist on its shingle, does NOT believe in nor follow ANY man-made doctrines of faith/worship, but is governed by SCRIPTURE.

Many are governed by both Scripture AND man-made doctrines & rules. One church in my area claims to be IFB, but it's also KJVO. Just a block from my home is a pentecostal church which is chock-full of the usual man-made rules of dress & appearance. Most churches follow at least one man-made doctrine.

Depends on the extraScriptural doctrine being followed whether a church is apostate or not.

Biggest mistake of Northern part of Independent Baptists in USA. In 1920's huge split over modernism/fundamentalism as the conservatives were trying to win control of the Convention. They had a list of basic fundamental Bible truth spelled out - a doctrinal statement - to guide all churches that were part of the NBC (now American Baptists). Liberals were going to lose their death-grip and they needed to keep control.

So, introduced a "substitute motion" that the BIBLE ALONE would be the rule for faith and practice. Now, who is going to vote against that? It passed and they kept control, since they "interpreted" the Bible liberally. Regular Baptists soon left; Conservative Baptists a decade later.

The Southern Baptists observers, always more conservative, saw the danger of leaving "the Bible alone" (without any guidelines for meaning of that term) would destroy the SBC soon. So at their 1925 convention passed the "Baptist Faith and Message" (revised many times since as issues arose). If an SBC affiliated church cannot agree to that, they leave the convention rather than allow liberal non-scriptural teaching to continue to destroy the biblical bond.

In a recent "cleansing" of churches, hundreds were expunged from SBC. Many formed a "cooperative" fellowship that allows vile and liberal views to predominate.

I would love to visit your church to point out some "man-made" rules!

    Such as?

We follow the law, of course, have a pastor & deacons. The pastor preaches from the NKJV, but we may use any Bible version we choose, What little music we have comes from a CD/boombox. We begin a service with a prayer/doxology & end with an "altar call". We have the foot-washing observance twice a year in appropriate weather, "Lord's Supper"/Communion 4 times a year, & outdoor baptism in appropriate weather. We believe baptism is the public outward expression of one's committment to Jesus & that only already-saved believers should be baptized. Our church exists to praise & worship God & to preach the Gospel, & nothing else.

Correction : the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship churches are *still* on the SBC rolls, and are counted in church and membership statistics, even if they set up their own mission board and give no money to the SBC Cooperative Program. No purge yet has occurred, though it should.

Bow to your knowledge. I am not SBC, so may the logical jump that those with liberal (SBC calls it "moderate") views were now GONE.

Agree that it should. If I were SBC, I'd surely want such clear distinction between truth and error

Some are - some are not.
Some CBF are not in the SBC, but they may still in the
SBC local association. Some states/Commonwealths have two separate
State association - ie -Virginia, Texas, MO......

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship – Forming Together

And then some SBC churches left to become part of the https://allianceofbaptists.org/

There are 'Alliance of Baptists' churches that are still in the Convention!

SBC Executive Committee decides membership in the Alliance of Baptists does not automatically disqualify a church from participation in the Southern Baptist Convention

Still in the SBC? How can that be? Their own covenant is a horror story to read or the most radical/liberal ideology replacing the Gospel

Don't forget, "With heads bowed and eyes closed, raise your hand if you want to be saved today. Nobody is watching."

(Pastor then says a few "Thank you, sir. Thank you, ma'am." while I can't help but wonder if anybody is really raising their hand at all.)

If one is averse to working on Sunday, then to avoid hypocrisy or being a stumbling block for others, he needs to avoid patronizing places on Sunday where people are working, or perhaps even using services, like Cable or Internet or telephone, which companies are staffed round the clock.

Could be their Constitution has them in the SBC and they did not have enough votes to come out - officially - but in reality they are no longer SBC
