Oh, ok, so because people hate the only True God and boiled and ate our missionaries I am now supposed to relieve them by giving monies which I earned under the blessings of God to support them int their anti-God living?

Isaiah 53:10 But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.

Because Jesus became sin, not because God wanted to abuse His only begotten Son!

A screwball is likened to something that spins in every direction and never comes to any specific conclusion.

Existing for God´s glory does not mean it comes from God.

And yes everything exists for His glory, and He is glorified in all things.

We need to get back to discussing the whole of the Warren prayer, not just carping about his opening phrases.

I was not happy with Warren’s prayer. At the beginning he tried to embrace Christians, Jews, and Muslims with phrases each group could identify with. Then he wandered over into lecturing God. One or two lines seemed calculated to draw a response from the crowd, and it did — applause! He ended up invoking the name of Jesus in several formats, presumably to include everyone — but the name of Jesus in Hebrew and in Arabic is probably quite offensive to those groups in that context. Then to conclude with the Lord’s Prayer, presumably expecting others to follow, is again an assertion that the crowd is essentially Christian.

With Lowery, of course I responded well to the quotations from “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, but he too began to lecture, and the ending about blacks no longer staying back, brown stick around, etc., was offensively cute to me. I do not do cute in prayer! But I liked his ending, doing what African-American preachers often do, rising to a climax that calls for an “Amen” without necessarily invoking a particular name. And he knew enough not to say, “Let the church say ‘Amen’” because this was/is not a church.

It all makes me feel, as one who has tried too many time to do public formalities like this (university graduations), that we do a disservice to people and their understanding of prayer with this sort of exercise.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.
    Ask God to help them;
    intercede on their behalf,
    and give thanks for them.
Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
This is good and pleases God our Savior,

    1 Timothy 2:1-3 NLT

Nice prayer RW, you've honored our Savior.

The article asked, "Seriously, is there anything there that Christians, or even simply religious people across the spectrum, would strongly disagree with?" Well, it's hard to find fault with this segment:
But I do strongly object to the blatant pandering here:
    And the profanity here:
Honestly, it's almost blasphemous to suggest that Heaven rejoices in anything but Christ and the increase of His Kingdom, especially when it's the election of one who so brazenly profanes Christ and His Law.

It was a good prayer offer humbly before God.

I respect the dissent of gentlemen like Mr Smith above and roll my eyes at the egos of others.

Interesting how he used Jesus name and wrapped it into using the prayer Jesus taught us to pray as the model and yet he gets criticism. Sounds Jesus would have gotten criticism from some around here.

What do you say to scripture?
Amos 3:6, "Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?"

Lam 3:38, "Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?"

Is 45:7, "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."

It must be very difficult to offer prayer of any kind in such a gathering. I am not going to criticize Mr. Warren at all. I did think he seemed somewhat uncomfortable at times. Then, I might be inclined to set out of my shoes before praying for fear that I would fall out of them whilst praying.

    Cheers,

    Jim

All in all, a very good day. As a foreigner I watched the whole day.

As a fellow SB, I was so proud of Rick Warren. He did not disappoint, especially in how he concluded his prayer.

    I'm so thankful to God.

I will be called a blind follower (which I'm not) but I was pleased over all with the prayer.

The only thing that sickens me is the self-righteous prigs on this thread. But they sicken me every time I read anything they vomit up.

Freedom of speech. Freedom to be dumb and hateful and divisive to the cause of Christ.

Come on, Dr. Bob. Some of us stood up for him and even commended him.

    Cheers,

I expected an "act up" outrage by the haters at the ceremony. Was pleased NOT to see interruptions

Of course the haters here (you know their names - not you, jim) will make more noise than the "act up" crowd.

Pastor Warren spoke of God's blessing and need for
    Wisdom
    Courage
    Compassion
    for the new President

He spoke of God forgiving us

    And his petition?
    Clairty in aims
    Reponsibility for actions
    Humility in approaches
    Civility attitudes
(sounds like a Baptist preacher, eh?)

    As we all
    Share
    Serve
    Seek common good

Ending with the Lord's Prayer was unexpected

Even better is how a many of the crowd joined him in the Lords prayer.
