Whoever wrote this law should be reprimanded. The President was likely only given a short set of briefings of what sounds like a textbook sized law. Let's look at my career field of military operations and strategy. There are no tailored degrees for me (disabled) or those wanting to be military officers. Many come from three different degrees due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, Military History, Political Science, or Strategic Studies.

I should add military officer candidates and cadets can come from any major. I hope the Agency involved thought of that.

Amazing how you imaginatively absolve Trump of all culpability yet the the law clearly accommodated Trump(Melania). It had his full blessings

Makes good sense to me. Success of a model is based on looks and not brains.

I shouldn't absolve him, you are right in that. He hired these people that staff the White House and Agency senior positions. However, I know that on Capitol Hill, staffers write and make executive summaries for the elected officials. I doubt anyone at the top in US government can read the thousands of pages of pertinent information generated daily. I also doubt the President has any expertise on academia and it's preparation for the job market. That is why I said what I said.

Fashion models are a "looks" position, so that does make sense to make an exception for them.

    "Obviously"?

The changes to the H1-B Visa requirements would be moving forward. There is no provision of retroactively kicking people who entered 24 years ago out of the country! Sheesh, where do you get this crap?!

That said, I don't think we have a shortage of fashion models in the U.S. and need to go out and import some more.

    Valid point.

But why have fashion models on H1-B and then exempt them from college degrees and not O? They are exempted because H1-B is for professionals with high level of education and skills, and Melania came in using H1-B

If you spent more time reading before commenting you'd save yourself unnecessary bile. I said as much.

My interest is piqued by having, of all jobs, fashion models on H1-B. They are so out of place that they need exemption from the college degree rule. There are better fitting visas for them such as O. Melania came in on H1-B without a degree.

If her path to citizenship is subsequently blocked by her husband there will be hue and cry. What to do, amend everything but leave Melania's path open

Valid point but why are they on H1-B ,a high education+skill category and not say O? Screenshot_20201008-063916_Samsung Internet.jpg

The entire OP makes no sense. It first says college degree OR equivalent experience, then immediately afterward says college degree required.

But let's get to your specifics about models, which sound bogus, or highly dubious. Are you claiming the categories themselves have been entirely revamped? What is the history on these? Do you have that? Consider this, for example:

This article will explain the basics in obtaining a visa for a fashion model.

Under U.S. immigration laws, there are three methods to qualify for a foreign model to work in the U.S. They are H-1B WORK VISA, the O-1 ALIEN VISA and the P-3 CULTURAL EVENT VISA:

Brother, did you read up on this at all? Where is the requirement that one must have a specific degree in the field of expertise, or that a degree is absolutely required? Experience seems to count just as much or more. In any case, a petition is required first.

But more to the point, what if someone did claim to have a degree in your field of expertise? What if they claimed they were more qualified for your position than you, as you have no specific degree? How much sense does it make to hire a foreigner to do your job?

I just read up on it. I must say I was foolish to avoid knowledge and then speak like an expert, I'm sorry.

Reading up on this, the Wall Street Journal seems to do a good job. The main problem Agent47 was having was a kind of conspiracy theory that Melania was being protected. I hate conspiracy theories, I have unbelieving family into them. It makes it impossible to talk Christ and His truth with them.

    Thank you Brother.

Looking at it, there is only one problem, the degree requirement, that is easily fixed with a proper review. Particularly, given the blowback the Administration is getting from tech companies that know better about their hiring standards than the Administration. I disagree with nothing else in the law, and the Biden campaign wouldn't answer if they would repeal the policy. Because, Biden supports the central part of the change, that immigrants have the same wages as citizens if they do the same job. Currently, employers pay immigrants cut rate salaries to fill good jobs, because its better than staying overseas.

I'm not unfamiliar with companies needing to fill positions that require more experience than available from the national pool. But we have some other problems related to this.

University costs have skyrocketed due to legislation. Foreigners, even from enemy states like Communist China who may subidize them, come here and get the education, including doing top research, and then take jobs Americans might have gotten, had they the resources.

Globalist companies especially are more than happy to use alien workers to reduce costs, even though Americans could and would do the work. We don't need that sort of thing hurting Americans and the American economy. Perhaps if unions hadn't become such a problem, this would be easier to fix.

Also, a lot of jobs are farmed out to overseas companies, and this is another, similar problem.

Foreign workers have been displacing American workers. There is a lot of unemployment. STEM jobs should go to Americans and if there is a shortage, business should encourage more training in the areas. Trump should have done this long ago.

She had high level skills. Without getting in the weeds, I guarantee you she had some big time skills.

Of course, she has. She speaks several languages although Hollywood star Bette Midler does not like Melania's accent but Bette is probably xenophobic and dislikes foreigners, no? People like Bette need to be reassured that foreigners who become American citizens are okay even if they have a strange accent unlike Bette.
