    Trump tightens Cuba embargo

"Elections have consequences. Just ask Raúl Castro!

Not long ago, Raúl Castro was hoping that the Obama approach would bring dollars and tourists to Cuba. He is getting a rude awakening.

We just got news that the Trump administration is looking to tighten the Cuba embargo, according to this story:

The Trump administration is weighing what could become the most serious tightening of the U.S. trade embargo on Cuba in more than two decades – a move that could unleash a flurry of lawsuits against foreign companies that have invested on the island.

A 1996 law known as the Helms-Burton Act give Americans the right to sue companies profiting from properties confiscated by Cuba's government after its 1959 socialist revolution. That potentially could allow hundreds of lawsuits against corporations around the world, from Spanish companies that run Cuban hotels to Chinese and Turkish firms renovating Cuban ports.

But every U.S. president since Bill Clinton has suspended the key clause, known as Title III, because of its potential to alienate U.S. allies and complicate any future American detente with Cuba.

This is very interesting – and is quite justified.

Over the last 50-plus years, the Castro regime has been doing business with stolen property. Castro's people confiscated hotels, breweries, manufacturers, and even individual brands. Cigars, for example, sold at duty-free shops without regard for patents or trademarks.

A few years ago, I saw these cigar brands sold in Mexico. I remember telling my father about the names, such as Partagas and H. Upman, and he said those were all private companies built by entrepreneurs over the years.

None of those investors or owners was compensated for what the Castros called "nationalization."

Good move by Secretary Mike Pompeo! The Castro regime got away with massive robbery, and it's time to hold it accountable."

The Burton of the Helms Burton Act was from Indianapolis. His brother was a member of the state legislature.

Cuba has been trying to encourage tourism based upon seeing what is left of Cuba from before the Castros murderous communist regime. Cuba needs to replace Russia and Venezuela as sources of subsidies because Cuba is a parasite with a dead economy.

Actually, tourism is a tough sell because one can see squalor anywhere in Latin America, the poorest continent on the world. Cuban tourist facilities are second-class at best and are usually unsanitary and out of order. The main tourist attraction is prostitution of all ages and both genders.

Trump is right to throw the book at these tropical rats who are so cozy with Russia, China, and Iran as well as narcotrafficers from all of Latin America. The Castros are very much involved in the narcotics trade as well as arms dealing. Lawsuits for theft of property may not collect but they are a clear signal of intentions. At Raul's advanced age it is difficult to ride the tiger and one hopes the Castro family is overthrown and executed.

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for posting about Cuba. I was 17 when Castro took over and very soon I met a lot of Cuban refugees. The Cubans were hard workers and just like us. Socialism goes after rich countries I learned. Ike tried to help them but his term ended. I think Latin America is sick of socialism and ready for religious freedom. Ken Ham says that the AiG preacher boy in Latin America preaches to thousands all the time and they want everything they can get in Spanish about Noah's Ark and Creation.
