The Trump administration is likely to expand a controversial guest-worker program, Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly told Congress on Thursday, in a move that’s bound to anger some of the president’s staunchest supporters.

H-2B visas are aimed at seasonal non-agricultural workers, and are generally good for up to a year. The visas are sought by summer and winter resorts, as well as other seasonal businesses — from Maryland’s crab-picking plants to Alaska’s seafood processing industry.

President Trump during his campaign promised to protect American workers from foreign competition, which draws a lot of attention to his administration’s decision to expand the H-2B visa program.

Doubling the number of foreign workers allowed into the country. Winning!

Much of the fishing fleet out of Port Isabel, just a bit east of me, is tied to the dock. They can't get people to work the fish nets and lines. The industry relies on the H-2B visa program.

The last year of the Bush administration there were over 94,000 H-2B visas issued.

The first year of the Obama administration that number dropped by over 50,000.

It has slowly crept up to around 70,000 but is still 25,000 below what it was under Bush.

We need those guest workers. Good for President Trump for expanding that very necessary program.

This is not against Trumps message.
The problem is with ILLEGAL immigrants

Illegals do not get taxed on their wages.
    Legal foreign workers get taxed.

Illegals get paid less, get free or subsidized health care, qualify for food stamps, and many additional subsidies (since they don't report any income). They drive wages down.
In actuality, with these benefits, they have more disposable income than a legal (over-taxed) worker.

Bringing in legal workers to fill out a workforce that is unwilling to perform various jobs grows the economy, contributes to society and brings in workers with a strong work ethic.

    Let's Make America Strong again!

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday titled “Buy American, Hire American” while on a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he called on federal agencies to overhaul the H-1B visa program.

The order addresses the Department of Labor, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and State Department to “take prompt action to crack down on fraud and abuse” within the U.S. immigration system in order to "protect workers."

Speaking at the headquarters of Snap-on Tools in Kenosha, Trump singled out the H1-B visa program for "allowing American workers of all backgrounds to be replaced by workers brought in from other countries to fill the same job for sometimes less money."

Another lie by Trump during the election. He's not going to increase opportunities for good jobs for Americans. Especially heartbreaking was his promise to the coal miners in KY who supported him by 80% in some counties to give them back their jobs.

Yes. To hire American. What is the problem? You are aware that legal guest workers are considered "American Persons" by the US Department of State?

That is opinion not proof. Give me a credible link. I am not saying he didn't. I don't remember he did. So, I was credible proof. Thanks in advance.

As Trump promised on the campaign trail, the next expected executive order deals with reforming a slew of U.S. foreign guest worker programs, in which the administration will emphasize the need for giant tech companies to hire American workers over foreign ones.

Among the highest priorities for the executive order is the reforming the H1-B visa, which was originally created to allow U.S. companies to temporarily hire foreign guest workers to do highly-skilled jobs. Members of the Trump Administration, including likely-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, have panned the H1-B visa as a system run amok with fraud and abuse, as well as prioritizing cheaper, foreign labor ahead of American workers.
