U.S. Planned Parenthood Reports Record Profit, Record Amount of Taxpayer Funding By John Jalsevac

On June 6 Planned Parenthood (PP) released its official 2005-2006 annual report. The report details the activities and financial situation of the organization at length.

During the year of 2005-06, besides reporting that 264,943 children were killed by medical and surgical abortions performed by its clinics, it also reported a record income, including a record amount of taxpayer funding. Planned Parenthood’s total income for the year was $902.8 million, with a $55.8 million profit.

Jim Sedlak, who is the is executive director of STOPP International, a project of American Life League, as well as vice-president of American Life League, analyzed and commented on the data presented in the 2005-06 report.

“Once again, Planned Parenthood took in much more money than it needed,” writes Sedlak. “It reported ‘excess of revenue of expenses’ of $55.8 million for the fiscal year. This marks the 34th year in a row that Planned Parenthood has reported ‘excess revenue’ — otherwise known as profit. Over the years, Planned Parenthood has reported total profits of over $700 million. It has amassed a treasure chest of assets worth $839.8 million.”

Sedlak points out that Planned Parenthood’s income comes from three sources: “fees charged at its clinics; donations from corporations, foundations and individuals; and taxpayer money received from government grants and contracts.”

After-school trip to Planned Parenthood prompts investigation

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (AP) -- The city school board ordered an investigation into an after-school program run by the YMCA in which some middle school students were taken to visit a Planned Parenthood clinic.

New Hampshire Right to Life, an abortion opponent, is now asking for equal time with the seventh and eighth grade students, as well.

The visit was part of the YMCA's STAY program, for students considered at risk of dropping out of school, abusing drugs or getting into trouble with the law. The trip, a week ago, was part of a tour of several social service agencies in the city, to show the students where they could go for support and recreation during the summer.

The school board voted Tuesday to investigate how the decision to visit Planned Parenthood was made and determine whether anyone should be disciplined.

Planned Parenthood officials said the educator who met with the students briefly listed the preventive health services the clinic offers -- annual exams and PAP smears, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, birth control and pregnancy counseling -- and never mentioned abortion.

Minneapolis, MN (LifeNews.com) -- The number of abortions in Minnesota in 2006 jumped more than five percent -- a sharp reversal after four years of steady decline. However, pro-life advocates there say Planned Parenthood is to blame as it opened to centers focused on getting teens to its abortion businesses.

New figures from the state health department reveal 14,065 abortions were reported in Minnesota in 2006, compared to 13,362 in 2005.

But Scott Fischbach, executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life says teenagers have been increasingly targeted as never before by Minnesota's abortion industry and Planned Parenthood appears to be leading the way.

This is an example of voting to allow the government to take money from you to give to another person or an organization. This must be opposed across the board whether you approve of the person or the organization, or not.
