Emily, I have yet to see the movie, but every christian I know personally who has gone to see the movie literally raves about how incredibly accurate it is...Dunno, i can't really say till i've seen it.

perhaps it was because I was prepared before I went that there would be a lot of extra-biblcal stuff in there.. I was able to verify, and that particular pastor was right..

Emily, a lot of people are just repeating what they've heard when they say it's accurate, or would not have the knowledge to point out what's inaccurate.
I'm not planning on seeing it, for other reasons.
Keep in mind though that it's not scripture, it's a movie made by Hollywood actors, and produced by a Hollywood actor that is Catholic. I'd think the average person would look at those two facts alone and assume it's not going to be perfectly scriptural, but the average person also buys into what everyone else says, and I think in the case of this movie that has been made extremely obvious. Churches are renting theatres and buying hundreds of tickets at a time because the person producing it said it was good, or a friend told them so. I think a lot of people also simply don't want to be heard saying a film that focuses on Jesus could in any way be wrong, that maybe they'll get hit by lightning or something if they do, or get attacked by the mobs of people who passionately refuse to acknowledge anything wrong with the film.

It is easy to evoke emotions, and people have been emotionally moved by Lassie pictures and other sad events, especially when chilren are involved.

I should imagine this picture will evoke such emotions. I can take a funeral and make everyone in attendance cry. Is that my job? My job is to console those who mourned. My job is to preach the word and tell the truth of what God says. If that evokes emotions, so be it, but that should not be my aim.

Pictures are designed to evoke some sort of emotion. Decisions made on emotion are seldom long lasting.

People who go to this film believing in the historical Jesus, the humanistic Christ, will come away believing the same. It is not a gospel revival or evangelistic picture. It is a Hollywood venture, however well meaning the writers may have been. In my opinion.

By the foolishness of preaching is the byword. How do I say join the world in one breath and say come out from among them and be ye separate in the next breath?

    Cheers,

    Jim

"Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour" Matthew 27:45

The Father did not want ANYONE to see the shame of his only begotten son; he turned the day into night! Not only that but there was also an earthquake!

Why watch a movie depicting the shame of our LORD Jesus Christ?

I felt personally convicted to see this movie..

Perhaps it was that I picked out the stuff that was inaccurate.. but, I knew I was going to see it..

Jim, I am also relearning a LOT of things from the bible..(I was caught in a bad church for years) I had always been taught that the 3 hours that God turned day into night was AFTER he was beaten and it was as though God was mourning..

    is this incorrect? scriptures?

It's only a movie, and no one so far has said it was line for line same as the bible, or even that it's an actual bible movie. So I think satan is really at work when [people see it and say oh well it wasn't biblical, no said it was, thus minimizing anything God may be wanting to use it for.
It's only a movie, no different then any other movie you watch. No movie is accurate on anything it is supose to be based on, it's called art, not scripture, so don't expect scripture.

Emily, the darkness was while Christ was on the cross. I apologize if I caused you to think that i was promoting another idea.

I will keep you in my prayers as you recover from the bad church you were in and re-learn the wonderful truths of the Bible.

I keep hearing on "Christian" radio how faithful and accurate this movie is to the Scriptures. Sadly though, we don't all read and understand the Scriptures the same.

I am not commenting on the film, but appreciate your concerns Emily.

I have a supporting Baptist church in Warren. Will pray about tomorrow for you.

Emily, for what it is worth, here are two Churches in Warren that I would recommend.

Antioch Baptist Church, Pastor George T. Crabb, 30590 Dequindre Road, Warren, MI 48092 (810-751-0860 or (800-KJV-ONLY)

Warren Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Charles Smith, 11285 East Ten Mile Road, Warren, MI 48089 (810-759-3220) http://www.warrenbaptist.com/

    Emily,
Rest assured that you and your husband have been placed on my prayer calendar for Sunday. God bless.

Do not feel badly about persuading your husband to attend. Many a soul has found the Lord by friendly persuasion.

I could tell you the story about a Jewish lady and her son who came to Jesus. Her husband remained true to his beliefs. She never tried to persuade him, and even attended synagogue with him. She just remained a faithful wife and mother and never missed a Sunday service. After many, many years, her husband came sobbing that he couldn't take it any longer,,her silence, but consistent witness,, and he eventually came to Jesus. Prayer and a consistent life does wonders.
I think it took 18 years in this case, but I can't remember all the details now. It was back in the 60's.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

    Jim..

Been to WMBC.. My husbands brother actually got married there and was a member for over a year.. its actually like... TWO minutes away from my house.. But my husband HATES it there.. and truth be told, Im not a big fan of it myself. I wasnt warmly welcomed there at all. I felt very uncomfortable.

My son will be going to daycare at Antioch, but I have been extremely warned by several people about things that are going on at that church.. They wont share what it is, but I've literally heard from 3 people who I count as accountable Baptist Christians, so I dont know that I will try it.

The church we are attending tomorrow is redeemer baptist church.

Warren Missionary Baptist church is staunchly KJV as well, though I am personally not.. I prefer NASB.

WMBC is also Baptist Brider, which is why my husband hated it..

If you lived in Denver, CO. I'd have an awesome Church to invite you to. I'll check with my Pastor and see if he knows of any others up that way.
