    First of all, a "ruling" "preeminent" mindset was condemned by the Lord as being worldly.........Matthew 20:25-27
    But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

    But God prescribes a very different attitude......
    1Peter 5:5
    Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

    I left a church, of which I had been a member for 26 years, after they got a "Diotrephes" for a pastor. Incredibly, many of God's people actually "love" to be abused and the Bible speaks about that mentality too. Jer 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so:...........

    You see, when you "bear rule" by doing things like misapplying "touch not God's anointed" in order to keep the people in line in case they question anything you say, it's no different from "prophesying falsely". Treating people like garbage just because you know that your loyal members will come to your defense if anyone protests is what "wolves in sheep clothing" do. And "beating people over the head" on Sunday morning is worldliness under the guise of "speaking the truth in love". Why wouldn't some people be leery about joining a church?

    Having said that, I did join another church after leaving. The pastor we have now has a heart for God, but doesn't act like the guy in the video.
    Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

    1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

    5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

    5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

    BAD EXAMPLE!... Brother Glen:eek::Thumbsdown

    I would add that there could be another reason a man would not want to"put himself under the authority" of any man, and it's found in the Book of Jude verse number 8.

    Who is to say he is wrong? He has come up with what he believes through his own personal interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. Shouldn' t that be the end of the story?

    Then obviously it is a temptation (a stumbling block) for you....good that you stay away from it then. However placing a stigma on another who can handle it and buys it in a store (where someone can see you buying it) is wrong minded).

    He sounds like a Constitutionalist I ran into a while back! They recognize no authority on earth, and if you had time to talk this out with him, you may have found this to be his argument! Personally, when asked, Jesus told His followers that when it came to paying taxes, to render unto Caesar that which was Caesars I would think this same teaching would apply to being under the authority of Jesus. Plus Jesus told His followers to sell their belongings and follow Him! I think Jesus didn't mean this literally, but spiritually to have nothing in this world more important then Him, in order to follow Him without personal struggles!

    Brother, with all due respect, that is bad counsel. The church can weather any criticism of its integrity. The best remedy for this individual is to be exposed to the Word of God. Perhaps God will grant him repentance from his sinful attitude. Perhaps the love of the brethren will be used by God to accomplish the same thing.
