What is the longest period you've spent "between" ministries?

Did you get secular employment during that time?

(My ministry at the church finished noon Thursday, so I am "unemployed" presently. Asking for very personal reasons!!) :D

Bob, When I moved from Western Canada back to Ontario, I was 5 months between churches. I worked at my father's shop driving a truck and doing deliveries. It is hard to remain idle whilst waiting.

I just wouldn't take a job suggesting I was looking for a career.

    Cheers, and best wishes,

    Jim

Hi, as a pastor's wife of 23 years and since we started two churches from scratch I can only testify to the importance as a wife of being provided for and am glad to say I've found a Christian based company that's a good MLM that you can build anywhere on your own time and glorify God freely as you help people with an every day need. See my profile if you want a clue as to what it is and email me if you care to help people breathe clean air and drink pure water. I'm not implying my husband didn't or doesn't provide well enough; but I got on board this MLM just to try Prov. 31 and "buy a field" so to speak.

Yes well indoor air purification is cleaning up a lot that causes or provokes our allergies/asthma these days.

    Bob,

I don't know about IFB churches - but liberal ones are usually very process-oriented. That generally means that, if I were to apply for a church today; odds are that I wouldn't receive the actual job offer for at least six months.

We're fortunate in that my wife knew when I went to seminary that there would never again be anything approaching parity between our incomes; so she's never gotten antsy when I was between pulpits. In addition, I have several side jobs that I can always do to pick up the slack.

With all that said, I think I once went about 9 months between clergy jobs.

I really joined this board because I wanted to comment on this question!! My wife and I originally came out of a cult Armstrong's WCG group! But we discovered the truth of the glorious grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and of justification by faith alone. We left the WCG, I went to university and graduated with an honours BD degree in 1998. By this time we were firmly baptistic in theology, but mainly conservative evangelical. I was accepted as a prospective Baptist minister in 1998, but non-accredited since our history was a bit unusual.

But I was assured that I would still eventually pastor a congregation - it did not happen, and after several years, started up the internet ministry. I am now 58 and neither mine, nor my wife's, health is too good so it seems unlikely I will ever pastor, but we willingly accept the Lord's will for us. Sometimes His perfect will is not what we might plan for, nor expect.

We belong to Highfields Free Church in Cardiff, UK. Not a purely Baptist church, but certainly a Bible-believing church. We are happy to be walking within the Lord's will for us!

I have yet to pastor a church that could support a pastor fully. I have been in the "running and catching" business (this time) since 1992.
You know the old question: "Well how many are you running now?" I am running about 200 but only catching 30.

    Thanks ------Bart

As best as I can remember, I was without a job for a month in 1985.

    God is my provider....
