    Using the news to witness

Has anyone ever mailed tracts to people they have seen on the news??? For example when watching local news do you ever pray for thoses in stories How about writing their names down and looking them up in the phone book and sending them a tract?? What are your thoughts??? God bless. [IMG]

    Sounds like stalking to me..

There are too many undercover Christians as it is. Just mailing out tracts is not evangelism.

To me it would be lazy.

I would have to agree that it may not be the wisest thing to do.
Of course if God is truly leading you to do this, who am i to argue...but i would suggest doing some serious praying before taking this action.

Im rather leery of this idea as well. It seems to me that most people in the news are going through some sort of tragedy, and it would seem like gross invasion of privacy and sorrow during a vulnerable time in their lives to search out an address that was not freely offered.

OTOH, we very often are told the neighborhoods that such things occur in......perhaps a more acceptable way to go would be to visit that neighborhood and go door-to-door passing out tracts and witnessing. Often the entire neighborhood feels it when something occurs there. Then it does not call to mind the idea of "ambulance chasing."

ps. I have prayed for people Ive seen in the news before, but never sought them out.

    Hello, TheBibleSender.

I've known of churches who keep an eye on the births and deaths in their community, and made appropriate gestures from the church. This is a great way to make contacts, but I'll have to think about your people in the news approach.

Folks, here is one way it could work: if you look for people in the news with problems and needs which might be met by your church, this could work. For example, if you see on the news that a house has burned down, your church could hold a food shower for the family, and open doors to witness. In my mind that is the key, to use the news event as a conduit to a chance to minister, and then through that be a witness.
