This question is only for information as I am not savy in this area? What versions of scripture do other cults use like JVs, Mormons and others? I know Mormons have the book of Mormon and are now offering the KJV on TV commercials. What versions do these various cults use when someone want to witness to them? What is the version of the Bible they use?... Brother Glen

To my recollection, the Mormons only use the KJV. But even that is incorrect in spots (they claim) and I believe Joseph Smith edited the KJV to be in sync with his errant doctrine.

The JWs used the KJV, but were very elated when the ASV came out (it translated LORD as Jehovah). Later they made their own translation, the New World Translation.

Most cults use the KJV because it is easier to "prove" their heresy from the KJV.

Not readily available, So I withdraw the statement.

I have read that the Boston Church of Christ is NIV-only, interestingly enough. Don't remember where I read that though.

if only the Mormons, SDAs, and JWs (can't speak of AOGs or New Apost Ch in general) advocate the KJB over modern versions, what % of all cults wld that make? surely 36 million's not a small number.

perhaps someone wld have better stats than the following:

    Religious Body Number of Adherents
    Catholic Church 1,043,000,000
    Sunni Islam 875,000,000
    Eastern Orthodox Church 225,000,000
    Anglican Communion* 65,000,000
    Assemblies of God 32,000,000
    Jehovah's Witnesses 15,374,986
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 11,300,000
    Seventh-day Adventists 11,300,000
    New Apostolic Church 10,053,447
    Ahmadiyya 10,000,000
    Bahai World Faith 6,000,000
    (fr http://www.adherents.com/adh_rb.html#International)

for Christian ministers, we already know that more Charismatic preachers (45%) prefer the KJB than evangelical preachers. http://www.ellisonresearch.com/Pastor%20Study/Release%202%20Bibles.htm

Not readily available, So I withdraw the statement.

    Chris,
I don't know why you'd retract that statement. The fact that the Mormons and other cults & false churches seem to gravitate toward the KJV is apparent for anyone who has studied the history of these cult groups. Doesn't mean that it's the fault of the KJV necessarily. But that's just an observable fact, somewhat akin to the fact that many (but not all) users of the RSV/NRSV are liberal in theology.

TomVols, you have named one cult which says they use the KJV (but don't believe it and consider the BoM, DaC, and PoGP to be more athoritative). It seems obvious to me that the only bible in English in common usage when Joseph Smith plagerized it extensivly into his BoM was the KJV and as it is so extensively copied in the BoM that it makes sense they still claim to use it. Can you name just one cult which bases its false teachings exclusively on the KJV? Just one?

To the artist formerly known as Thomas Cassidy:

Nothing you mentioned vitiates the claim that the Mormons solely utilize the KJV as its Bible version. It is worth noting that they have note replaced it with a MV.

Are you telling me you are not aware of cults, false churches, and the like, which utilize the KJV as their exclusive translation? That was the point of my post. There are various pentecostal groups (some UPC, OPC) that stringently rely on the KJV. See my above post to clarify.

All of the information I can find on the 7th Day Adventists indicate KJV only. Would you consider the Adventists at a cult?

There is a racist cult heavily influenced by the KKK that is KJV only. I stumbled onto their site a few months back. I'll see if I can locate it.

</font>[/QUOTE]Don't think that's it. Like I said, I stumbled literally onto the website. Do remember it being adamantly KJVonly and very racist, denying some basic Christian doctrines.

Like a lawyer caught without his briefs  I didn't want to make a charge without evidence in hand (though I knew it to be true). But thanks to the evidence from everyone else, I reinstate my charge :D

I see. The Mormons don't believe the KJV and believe it contains terrible "translation errors" so the BoM, PoGP, and DaC is their basis for doctrine. The local UPC/OPC churches use, variably, the Living Bible, the NIV, the TIV, the RSV, and last the KJV. So, it would seem, your answer is, "sorry, I cannot, I shot my big mouth off and now regret it but refuse to admit it." [IMG]
