West Virginians reacted angrily to a joke about families in the state made by Vice President Dick Cheney at the National Press Club Monday.

It was tasteless, common, and showed no challenge for wit, but, in the context of a long and known geneology, the stupidity and ignorance is more by those who protests too much.

...........and I don't even 'like' VP Cheney.

I know what you mean. I want to denounce the statement, but I gotta put it in context with some of the things that have been said about him.

Bad joke by a bad guy.

Great example of self deprecating humor. :applause:

The only thing that would have made it better would have been if he had been in Arkansas.

    Predictable response.

For the most part, West Virginians are hard working, decent people. Shame of Darth Cheney.

Speaking of self-depreciating humor -- Cheney said being called Darth Vader humanizes him according to his wife.

Yeah, you're right.. Idiot was the wrong word to use...

    Jerk would be better...

I guess what even cut worse was what he said afterwards about how he can get away with saying that because he isn't up for re-election...

To get respect, one must give respect. In the U.S. the people are in power. The elected officials work for us. This is not a top down format as many seem to think.

"To get respect, one must give respect" is not a biblical principle. It's a reasonable thing, but the Scripture makes no such claim.
Do you think the Jews of Paul's time, got respect from their overlords -- the Romans? In the time of the ministry of Jesus do you think that the Jews told Rome:"Hey to get respect is to earn it. You must be respectful of us, then we'll be respectful of you."?No.You need to think more biblically, not humanistically.

Nope. As I pointed out, the USA is a bottom up model...WE are in power. The Veep is our employee. And it is wrong to misuse the Bible to justify bad behavior.

Didn't you mean to say, "West Virginians are hard working, decent people who cling to guns and religion?" :tonofbricks:

The VP is still one of the higher powers, as much as that rankles you. He is an authority. And to make you feel more at home, the Bible speaks of wickedness in high places which will increase in the last days. Wouldn't that include the office of Vice-President of the U.S.A.?

A ruling authority, is a ruling authority. True, or false?
