    OK - So I just heard from my 17 year old. She's on her way home from the youth retreat where they had no cell service. She texted me that she and her boyfriend broke up - she did it. She can't talk yet because she's on a coach bus full of teens so we're communicating right now with her texting my e-mail and me responding. No one else can hear our conversation.

    Fortunately she's OK. Don't know about "boy" yet though.

    I'm with you on this. I have no cell phone and don't like talking on the phone anyway. My phone is for my need and not for pests who want to bother me at the most inconvenient times. Why is it that no on ever calls when you're doing nothing? I keep the phone ringer turned off.

    LOL So true.

    The only ones who have my cell number are my family members and a friend of mine who's horse I take care of. I hardly ever get any calls unless I can't be reached another way.

    Why don't you tell her about this mean old Alabama farmer who's kids don't even get cell phones until they get a car.

    Oh, that's not a good word to use around our house. I can easily find things for our children to do.

    Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

    Personally, I don't see the point in children having cell phones unless they have a car and just have the cell phone for emergency purposes.

    No...the point of taking the phone for a while was because I thought she was becoming too attached. The blog serves a few purposes...I had hoped she'd find it fun, and she has. She also has a B in English and I'd like to see it turn into an A. She struggles with writing, and this is a way for her to do it without getting graded and as a writer, I HATE to see people think writing is no fun or difficult!

    So this turned out to be a light-hearted way to get more than a few things across.

    I AM surprised at the number of people who seem to think cell phones and texting are something to keep away from kids...especially when those opinions are expressed by people who are posting on an online message board. LOL! Kids are people too...I like message boards, she likes texting. She needs to learn moderation, I'm teaching it.

    I'm VERY glad for the existence of cell phones! When I got them through the first company, the kids had them for emergency use only. They've come in extremely useful since then, on top of it being something the kids enjoyed once I took blocks off and let them communicate with them. We've moved about 3 times in five years, and may be moving again when possible. They are able to keep up with their friends and family elsewhere through today's technology, and that has definitely made moving a lot easier! When I was a single mom and working, it was also a wonderful thing to be able to know that at any second, I could communicate with them and they with me. Yay for technology!
