    Dear b's and s's,

What sin do YOU have? What do you have that has not been given to you by our great and Almighty Lord? We ALL have something that besets us. Some smoke, some eat too much, some, well you know the list....and some are far too concerned with what OTHERS do.

Paul said, "Fix your eyes on Jesus."

He'll take care of all our sin. Praise God!

If smoking is a sin, then so is overeating, not exercising enough, etc., etc., etc.

If you think that smoking is a sin, then don't smoke. But you have no right to demand that your fellow Christians hold the same view of it.

I would like to know how many of you 'respondents' smoke. That will definitely clear the 'smoke' that is 'befogging' this issue. It will surely help us see things more clearly.

Different times dictate different ethics in some areas. It was quite common to sip brandy on a daily basis in England, and this included the most fundamental of preachers. The same was true of pipe-smoking. I smoked a pipe before I came to Canada, where all smoking was frowned upon in Baptist circles, as was imbibing any alcohol whatever.

In my Anglican circles, no one frowns upon the vicar smoking a pipe or even having a drink of alcohol. I know one vicar who will have a fag with a parishioner if it helps to make that person comfortable because they also smoke fags. I am not endorsing this, I am just saying it happens and does not reflect on one's devotion to God.

In passing, I really quit smoking my pipe because the driving switched from the right side to the left side and I turned one day and smashed my pipe against the car window.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I was a smoker before I was born-again. Even though I was attending the church. Sometimes, I had a cigarette in my pocket while I was attending the sermon. Of course I didn't smoke inside the church. But after I came out of there, I hid myself and the first thing I did was to find a place to smoke. But after I was born-again, smoking lasted only about 2 months and then stopped it because 1Cor 6:19 challenged me very much, and found smoking is the sin committed to the body as well and the body would be damaged thereby.

The most profitable job which I was offered for was the General Manager position of MPI group which means Maxwell House Coffee, Philip Moris, Impreial Whisky, and they offered extremely high salary and I told them I would consider such job only after I gave up my life. But God bless me with assurance that He will take care of my health as I have been mindful about the health of others.

Spurgeon stopped the smoking after he noticed the cigarette companies exploit his name. Spurgeon is a good believer, but made mistakes in the life after the salvation, I heard. This is why we need the sanctification, and the truth of church gathering helps the sanctification as well. For example, if I smoke now, I realize that I cannot participate in the Lord Supper on the coming sunday because it convicts me of my guilt. Therefore such truth helps me not to smoke. Also, since I was baptized I made up my mind to be faithful with the teachings. It sanctifies me too.

I appreciate Eliyahu for his honesty. Yes, smoking is a sin committed againt the body. I believe that when you are born again, the Spirit of God will immediately enable you to stop smoking. To continue smoking and argue that you are a [born-again] Christian is to falsify facts. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
