These same people need to remember Paul's words too...

Collossians 2:20 ...Why do you submit to regulations:
    "Don't handle, don't taste, don't touch"?
All these regulations refer to what is destroyed by being used up; they are human commands and doctrines.

The Bible lists no dress code for when we gather together spare modesty (which is the dress code for all occastions) and therefor neither should we.

What about we poor lefthanders. All men's ties are sown with a bias for righthanders. Lefthanders have trouble getting a good straight tie and it is very ackward to use the other hand to tie.

Geroge Bush Sr. usually had a crooked tie because he was a lefthander and tied it himself. I remember because I knew what the problem was. Being lefthanded is the main reason I seldom wear a tie anywhere.

Modesty is biblical and is the determining factor of what should or should not be worn. Dressing up or down is okay if it's done with modesty.

I can worship at home wearing shorts and a tshirt just as much as I can worship in the church building wearing a suit and tie.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Didn't say "must worship Him in their 'Sunday best'."

As a right-hander, I would have thought it possible for a lefty to just reverse the whole setup, if necessary. The actual knot that holds the tie in place is not symmetrical (on the 'inside'), but it can be tied from 'either side,' can't it?

I haven't had to wear a tie at work in years, and I think I have worn a tie to church twice in the last 2 or 3 years, and both times mainly for laughs. My brother and sister-n-law know I am a big Gunsmoke fan, writing fanfic and all, so they look on ebay for GS stuff every Christmas to give to me, and 3 or 4 years ago they gave me a Gunsmoke tie, with Matt, Kitty, Festus, a .44 Colt, hat, et al. I wear it very rarely just to tell them I did and what reactions it got  . Of course, half the 'reactions' may be about me wearing any kind of tie at all.

Respect for the Lord goes way deeper than clothing. A man can be in a three piece suit and be living far away from the Lord. While a man who dresses in jeans and a tshirt may be walking closely with the Lord. And of course the opposite is true as well. The issue comes to the heart not the exterior.

1 Samuel 16:7 "...The Lord does not look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

No. The stiching is biased for righthanders so the tie will be straight for most people. Suggest you try tying it from the left side and see what you get.

This is GREAT!! Can I quote you?? I think my pastor would love it!

My DH wears a tie (much to his chagrin but he's a pastor) in church each Sunday except those Sundays that he's going to be leading worship. He needs to be able to be comfortable and worship whole heartedly (he's a heavy sweater when he worships). He doesn't move around a lot thanks to a crushed foot but he definately gets into worship. :D Now, our Senior Pastor wears a tie anytime he's doing official church business. If he ever asks someone to come to his office and he's wearing his suit and tie, chances are you're losing your job. LOL!

I'm with SBC here! I've seen guys come to church dressed like a million and I know they're not worth a dime! Then again I've seen men come to church dressed like they've got the Dime Store hand downs---but are worth a million!!

There's times when I go to church dressed like Sunday but feeling like somethin' else---everything on the outside is "clickin'" smooth---but on the inside---I'm rotten to the bone!!

Its not what you've got on---its who you're dressed in!!! Dressed in the righteousness of the Lord Jesus.

If you want to dress up---dress up

    If you don't---don't

But regardless of whether you do or don't---if you're not dressed in the righteousness of the Lord Jesus---you need to confess that sin immediately---repent and return to the Lord who saved you!!

I guess all churches are different and in our church we certainly don't insist on what they wear except it be modest. I am a suit man, I always have been and try to dress my best. My dad told me years ago, God rest his soul, that if a man had a good hair cut and a good shoe shine he was a good looking man. Well that says volumes for if a man will go to that much trouble to look presentable to others then people will probably have respect for him. Now as blackbird said some dress sharp and have very little and some the other way around. There are a few that have both.
I feel when I go I am representing our church and I want to look good. We had one preacher who went around with his shirt out of his pants and one of the older brethren called him down and I never saw him that way again. Some people feel completely out of place with a suit and tie but for me its the only way I feel right. Not for a proud look mind you but just to feel right.

This reminds me of a revival I did years ago, after the first night the pastor came to me and said one of his members was bothered because my shoes were not shined. He bought me a can of polish the next morning and I proceeded to shine my shoes. I didn't agree with it but who am I to come between someone and the word? I figured if they won't hear the word because of my shoes, then I'll shine them.

SBC, that's why I said "wear what you will."

Webdog, I agree. We should not tie ourselves down with tradition and men/women/s rules. And there has to be recognition and action on both sides.

However, someone has to submit to his brothers/sisters sensitivity, and if wearning or not wearing a tie is of such little consequence, why not just wear the tie?

Now, I am not saying you have to wear a tie. I just think if it is such a non-issue why is there so much fuss against it.

Let me stress, I do not think what you wear determines your attitude to God. I am not telling anyone what to do.

    What I wear....

I wear a clean pair of jeans and a button of front shirt...
if they told me I HAD to wear a tie, I'd never go back!, EVER!

Why should we be any different?

No, it's the cowboy style tie.

a string that wraps around the neck with a piece of metal in front holding both ends of the string.
