Simply shacking up did not make a marriage in Jesus eyes we read of His encounter with the woman at the well.

Deuteronomy 22:28,29 tell us that if a man rapes a woman, he must marry her, thus differentiating between "knowing" her and marrying her.

verse 14 deals with a man's theoretical complaint that he married a woman and THEN "approached" her and found her not to be a virgin, once again separating marriage and the sex act.

Hence, they are not the same. Marrying a woman does not mean simply having sex with her.

Malachi 2:14 speaks of a "marriage covenant."
