Moderators, I wanted to put this here because I spend most of my time in this section.....

Friends, I have become aware today that someone is sending out emails pretending to be me... and it appears to be linked to BB...

If you receive an out of the normal email from me, please PM me here to see if I sent it.

Because of this, I will be spending less time here on BB.

    Thank you,
    Tim

How are they doing this? If it can be traced, I believe it's a crime, and you could / should prosecute whoever is doing it.

So the email asking what kind of deodorant I use wasn't really from you? :))jk)

Tim - You're kidding! Are they sending them out from YOUR e-mail address or did they make their "name" in the E-mail yours?

I'm so sorry about this! Sometimes cyberspace can be pretty icky.

    Tinytim,

If this is for real, then you need to make sure that nobody has hacked into your PC and is using it to host their websites.

That happened at work a few years ago. The computer guys determined that my coworker was telling the truth after all and that all the dirty stuff on his computer was put there by a hacker.

I am in no way insintuiting anything....I just know that ID theft and hacking are disastrous.

I sorta know how it happened.. but I don't want to give out too much info here.

Just be weary. And if something comes from me that is not normal... OK, I can see the jokes now..... then let me know.

If I can find out who is behind it, I will prosecute.

Email spoofing (sending out emails as someone else) is actually very easy to do. It's not so easy to hide the fact that the emails are spoofed, though, unless they actually hack into your computer and send the emails from your machine. If they're sending the emails from their own machine, it's usually pretty easy to track them down by examining the email headers.

Is this some kind of security issue at this site? Are others in danger of this happening by posting here?

    Sorry about that Tim;
Only way I know anyone could do that is set up an email with Yahoo, using tinytim as a username. But it would still come from their IP and any email sent back would go to their IP. Don't know for sure they could do it that way.

I was sent a blockout to BB by someone and had to request a login to the administrators. I was not banned or suspended, but couldn't get on for a couple days, so requested a login and the block was removed. I felt it was connected to someone on BB, and not the administrators.
    BBob,

I don't think so... if the public cannot see your email address from here.

    Hide all identifying information.

There was a time when there was a google gadget that would let you send emails from any address - I wonder if this is similar?

A google check and I found many of these statements.

Emails are not trustworthy nowadays.People can hack your email address and send all kind of bad things to your friends. You can get phished through emails.
