Here's the page I got when I clicked on one of the lovely google ads gracing the pages of the BB.

The Satanic Influence on the Scofield Bible

Not only were our good buddies Wescott and Hort communists and occultists, but they were trying to bring about a One World Order by changing Bible prophesy to suit their purposes. They accomplished this by their stranglehold influence on Mr. Scofield:

This is all thouroughly documented, of course!

Which just goes to show that you can take a few carefully selected quotes, add a few carefully selected ellipses, play fast and loose with historical facts, and come up with whatever conclusion you had in mind in the first place.

While a Scofield carrying member of an IFB church, I also could not reconcile the fact that he promoted the "Gap Theory" in his notes to Genesis 1. I'm sure there's a conspiracy in there somewhere, I just don't feel like chasing that rabbit.

Scofield (not being perfect) got some things wrong. Nothing weird about that. Especially if you realize that Young Earth Creationism, didn't exist yet at the time that the reference Bible was written.

I'm sorry mioque. I meant that I couldn't understand how such doctrine was ignored by my fellow IFBers. Everyone in that church had a Scofield, from the Pastor on down. I have no problem with the Scofield Bible, it has some very good notes, but to be so rigid in respect to modern bible translations while at the same time choosing to overlook a doctrine denied by most IFBs I'm familiar with...well that just didn't seem to be very consistent to me.

Whatever it's worth, the later Scofield Bibles do not even mention the Gap Theory directly, and it's available also in the NASV, NIV, and my current Bible I use, NKJV Scofield, which I love. ;) [IMG] [IMG]

After reading some of the links associated with the link above, it seems that this guy could have written the X files. Just another conspiracy theory.

Yep, but the methods used are the same as the KJVO uses to prove their points, just ratcheted up a bit to prove an even more goofy conclusion. (Well, not really a conclusion, 'cause its what they started with....)

I, too, grew up in a card-carrying Scofield type church. Pastor actually gave the page number instead of the reference!

Still love mine . . and have an "old" Scofield, KJV1769 oxford revision.

Question: How could C.I. be of the 'W&H cult' when he employed the KJV rather than the better Greek translation available (the ASV1901)?

Whatever one thinks of the Scofield Reference Bible, thinking that it was demonically influenced is really sorta funny.

I, too, was pleased with the fact that the "Gap Theory" notes were gone. My wife is still using hers, but I have since purchased a personal size NIV Study Bible, which I think is great. The first Bible ever given to me was an NIV Study Bible back in 1986. While at the former church, my wife and I actually threw away our NIV Study Bibles at one point.

Dr. Bob, our Sunday School teacher always gave the page number from the OLD SCOFIELD during his lessons. Every October, my former church had a "Bible Conference" during which the KJV was exalted above all and anyone who used a MV was demonized.

I would rather have it hidden in Isaiah than right there on the first page of Genesis. [IMG]

Is this because most folks don't get past the first page?

    Just wondering.

My problem with Scofield is primarily the universal invisible church he proposes.

The 'gap' theory, well sometimes I have and exhibit a 'gap' myself. Meaning the space between my ears, (pronounced 'years' by all good kyians). There, you see the gap? :D
