I would like the opinion of you Brothers who are more knowledgeable of Church history than I. I have a copy of J. Davis' "History of the Welsh Baptist".Is his a credible history?

In my time on the BB I don't remember this group being discussed. In general were they sound in the faith? Any discussion will be helpful

Jim, thanks for the link. There is some interesting reading there. I appreciate your answer. Some brothers have been silent. Perhaps they don't want to admit there were Baptists before the 1600's.

Doc, I own the Davis book, but must confess to having not read it. Neither have I read any reviews of it, so I can't comment on its credibility. It would also be interesting if someone who knows had time to compare it to Michael Ivey's A Welsh Succession of Primitive Baptist Faith and Practice. I have heard several bad reviews of Ivey's history, even among Primitive Baptists.

BTW, do you know if Eld. Compton still runs the CHRAA or has any of the books? I am assuming no more reprints have been done in several years.

Bob, thanks for your comments. It is difficult for someone who is not a historian or has not read extensively to judge writings.

I emailed Brother Compton re your question but have not received an answer. When and if I do I will forward it to you.

Bob, I heard from Brother Compton. He is commuting from Dayton, OH and pastoring a Church in Peoria, IL, so it was this weekend before he checked the email in Peoria.

He is still trying to take care of the History Archives, but with the traveling, looking for a job and family duties he is spread pretty thin.
Due to the fact he is in Ohio more than Illinois he can be reached at:
