Howdy DrJamesAch :wavey: Well in the OT circumcision was a "picture" outwardly what happen on the inside "heart" conversion. The Holy Spirit is invisible right "like the wind"? You couldn't see some ones heart to say "I know he's converted" BUT circumcision was an outward testimony. Baptism is like that in the NT.......its a "picture" of .....well you know the rest. :)

Of course they were born again or from above whichever you prefer. Jesus pointedly and gently rebuked Niocodemus for not being aware of this fact a fact which he should have known which is that salvation is of God and from God only. Salvation, regeneration, redemption have always been by God's choice and applied to those whom He chooses.

Were the Old Testament Saints born again before Christ died? No

    Why?

    Because scripture precludes that premise.

    How so?

1 Peter 1:3 says, "3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

No one can be born again through the resurrection of Jesus before Jesus died on the cross. You cannot go through a door because a door is planned. It is a lock folks, all those debating the point are Calvinists, simply repeating arguments without merit. Words have meanings, and scripture means what it says.

Scripture does not say were were SICK in the trespasses and sins...... RATHER you were DEAD in the trespasses and sins. No spiritual life is dead ..........and dead man tale no tales "spiritually" NT or OT.....dead is still dead.

And the truth shall set you free from Calvinism

Scripture (1 Peter 1:3) can be ignored, ridiculed and denied, but not changed.

To all the Calvinists riding this dead horse, build a brick wall, draw up detailed plans to install a door, mark an "X" where the door will go, then back up 10 steps, lower your head, and run head-long into the "X" Let me know how going through a door before the door is created works out for you. LOL

If either one of the times you said this were true, then people in the OT couldn't be saved and would all be in hell. Of course we know that isn't true, so your argument is moot.

Jesus said you must be born again and He said that before he died.

Exactly. The only thing that changed was that all now are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. OT saints did have their hearts renewed.

The truth will set you free from Calvinsm

The OTS had to wait to be made perfect, Hebrews 11:39-40, but would not have waited for Christ's death to be made holy and blameless and entering heaven if a person could be spiritually born again before Christ died.

1 Peter 1:11 cannot be changed to read indwelt. Of course the inspired writers of the Old Testament had the Holy Spirit in them, giving them the very words to speak and write.

This is the old prove "A" and claim "B" has been proven fallacy. More redefining words to pour Calvinism into scripture. LOL

We are born again "through" the resurrection of Christ. Thus the resurrection came before being born again, or under the New Covenant in His blood. Thus the OTS had to "wait."

Anyone's eyes can get heavy if they have to read through 30 pages.
    Time to close this one.

Yes many Calvinists disagree, but they have no answer, they simply accepted the unbiblical assertions of fallible men. Calvinism falls apart when actually studied. And one of the bed-rock fallacies of Calvinism is this "looking forward" and getting what was not provided until Christ died. You have tossed up several vague passages and claimed this supports the Calvinistic view. Think about it. Why are all the specifics on the other side, first born, through the death of Christ, follow in the regeneration and so forth. Passage after passage teaching the OTS had to wait for Christ's death to be born again i.e. 1 Peter 1:3, Hebrews 11:39-40, and John 3:13.
