I thought I had seen some low things in my life but this one is one of the lowest.

    http://www.therecorddelta.com/main.php?story_id=3924&page=23

I plan on visiting a memorial service this weekend for one of the miners that were killed this past week, he attended a local church and was a very fine Christian.
Please pray that God will grant me patience and grace if Westboro is there.

For those of you that haven't been following the story here is a link to a thread here on BB.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Man, I am very sorry for the families that will have to endure this mess.

I believe I would inform the police/governor/President Bush if needed to stop this.

I know, I know... I am all for free speech, but come on.. This is crazy!

Again, I am sorry for what the families will have to go through, they have enough to think about without adding this crap on them.

    :(

Yes indeed what that group is doing is very, very pathetic. It is unBiblical, un-Christlike, unloving, and pathetic. I likewise will pray for you and all who are attending those services.

As for how you should handle the protestors (all 15 of them)....ignore them.

    In Christ,
    Martin.

According to the article after I calmed down and read it again, it says they will be protesting in buchannon. The service I plan to attend will not be there but somewhere else. I might be blessed and miss their protest altogether.

I would post where the other service will be but am afraid that there is some "westboro mole" here on BB. and of course out of privacy to the family.

Well, my HUMAN side would punch one of em out. COLD. But since we cant really do that, then I guess we should pray for them and let God deal with them. Man, thats hard.

Jesus took a whip right? WWJD?
    I know, I know. I can't do this...
But that is what I'd like to do
that is why it is so hard.

    Oh Tim!

This group is so misled. Pathetic doesn't seem to be a strong enough word. Sinful, spiteful, hurtful . . . Funerals just aren't the place even when you stand on the truth, and of course this *group* just doesn't.

    Praying for their redemption.

The unfortunate truth is that Fred and his clan thrive on all the publicity, whether it's bad or good.

A couple of months ago I attended the funeral of a young Marine killed in Iraq. The "church" had put out a flyer saying it would show up to picket; law enforcement controlled entry to the vicinity of the church and veterans were standing guard to confront the Westoborites. So far as I could determine, the "church" didn't make the trip, but it received a good bit of word-of-mouth publicity anyway. Sad.

How come when something tragic happens here in the US---that some people feel like they have to rise up and justify the event as "A judgment from God"

    Hurricane Katrina---"A judgment from God"

Hurricane Rita--- "A judgment from God"

Space shuttle accident--- "A judgment from God"

Airliner crash--- "A judgment from God"

Lightning kills 4 Boy Scout campers--- "A judgment from God"

On and on and on they go!

In the Scripture---Jesus gave reference to the accident at Siloam that killed 18 people---that tower fell and killed them all!!

Jesus was quick to point out that those men killed on the tower----their lives were not dabbed in hedonism---they didn't perish because "their lives were not right"----they perished because it was an accident!! Accidents happen! Foolishly though--we want to say "They died because they were queer!" or "They died because they were adulterers!"

What a shame!! We can't even have an accident anymore without some sort of twisted theology being pasted to it!!!

Tim, you know where I live...right across the creek from Huntington. I played Industrial League baseball against Coal Co. teams from Raleigh and Upshur Cos. I played football in HS against the Buckhannon-Upshur HS(Intelligently nicknamed the "Buck-Ups) and knew a few from the area.

Here's a little story I posted elsewhere a few years back, with which you may be familiar, of how Huntington and Marshall U. dealt successfully with the Phelpsies w/o anyone's rights being violated:
    ________________________________________________

I live near Huntington, WV, home of Marshall University. A few years ago, a group of gay students launched a street campaign for more rights and understanding, and their theme was "Wear jeans today if you're gay" & they stood on several street corners, wearing jeans & holding their signs. A group of anti-gay-rights students responded by renting tuxedos & standing on the opposite corners, holding signs that read "Dress formal if you're normal". There was a little occasional catcalling back & forth, but absolutely NO VIOLENCE.

Well, Phelpsey got word of this & sent someone to ask the antis why they allowed the gays to get away with it, & were told, "for the same reason THEY allowed US to "get away with it"...FREEDOM OF SPEECH/EXPRESSION.

This didn't make Phelpsie happy, so he organized a day of protest in Huntington on and near Marshall's campus. He was told by MU officials that he was allowed on campus for OFFICIAL BUSINESS ONLY, & that the ONLY protests lawful on campus were those conducted by STUDENTS, FACULTY, WORKERS, or others who were part of the university's people.

Phelpsie asked for the necessary parade permit(required for all organized groups on public property, parade or not) & it was readily granted. However, when he asked for police protection, he was told that the city would NOT pull patrol officers from their beats, as they had the WHOLE city to protect, but if he wanted a constant police presence at his event, he'd hafta make arrangements in advance, including PAYING THE OVERTIME IN ADVANCE for however many officers he wanted. Well, he decided to forego the police.

Before the day of the protest, the people of Marshall U agreed among themselves to totally ignore the Phelpsies...and ALL the local news media agreed not to give them one nanosecond of coverage.

On protest day, the students of Marshall and the rest of Huntington simply SHUNNED the protestors, not acknowledging their presence except to simply step around them when they were in someone's way. About halfway through their scheduled time, they simply picked up their signs, hopped into their vehicles, & left. True to their word, NOT ONE STORY appeared in any local paper, not one word was said on radio & TV that any protest had occurred. Needless to say, they staggered off with their tails between their legs. They haven't been heard from in these parts since then!

The great thing is, no one's rights were violated! The Phelpsies had their lawful protest w/o interference, and the people of Huntington exercised their right to ignore them!

I looked at a Patriotic Bikers site.
The Bikers go to funerals of US Military
that died in Iraq. One arial shot shows
10 protesters protected from 300 bikers
by 30 police. I thought the info release was
interesting as it stresses very much, Phelps-ites
need the police to protect them from.
BTW, all Phelp's protesters are kin to Phelps.
So he can't even get any church members to
    help him. Sad :(

RC3, great story!! I wonder if the local officials here would get the hint if I sent it to them...

The Phelps are in Kansas City OFTEN!!

But, the all local news stations keep giving them their 20 seconds of airtime every time they pull a stunt like they're planning on doing in your area.

They even picketed at a Women of Faith conference once, telling us that our pastors were lying to us. It was sad and pathetic.

So, are you saying that God isn't in control anymore and "accidents" are not either the antics of satan or the Righteous acts of our Omniscient God?
