I was going through some e-mails received during my recent vacation when I ran across this. It was sent to me by a good friend. I just had to wonder where "Bible translation" is going to take us in the next century.

Why bother? It is quite apparent they just wanted a Bible with holes to match the holes in their heads.

We're gonna keep having these clearly-bogus versions coming along every so often, such as the "People's Bible" and "Good As New".

This has nothing to do with Bible translation. The whole thing is an attempt at satire. Slicing and dicing the Bible - without those troublesome passages about not storing up treasure on earth and taking care of the defenseless and poor - is an attempt to get folks immersed in the culture of western materialism to realize they've missed some of the core teachings of the Bible.

The Western Bible doesn't pretend to be an accurate translation - it's to make a point about what parts of the Bible are ignored too often.

I truly hope it works. But I have my doubts. We ( the western church) are to soft and spoiled, i.e. LAODICEAN!!!

I get it... sorta like a preacher I saw one time, during a sermon on controversial passages people don't like, when he started ripping pages from his Bible to make the point that there are a lot of people out there that would never physically rip a Bible apart, but do it all the time with their lifestyle...

Still, I wonder how many people will actually take it seriously and shout, "Hallelujah, we don't have to worry about that scripture now!!!"

I'm not a preacher, but I did the tearing up of a Bible once in a message. Got the attention of the audience at my church, anyway. Wound up with a few of the gospel pages left.

The Jefferson Bible is the one where Thomas Jefferson took out all the supernatural elements of the Gospels and published it.

I guess I might give them some credit for a creative way of making their point. But I'm not so sure this is necessarily the best way to make it.
