I'm just curious what some of you think about Christians wearing things like shorts, or going to the beach and wearing swimsuits?

I wear a baggy swimsuit that comes almost to my knees.
My wife wears a one piece suit with a pair of baggy shorts.

Well I don't go swimming that often, and if I do, I'm not in mixed company. {As in guys don't swim with the girls, vice versa} So I usualy wear waterproof pants and a sports top with a tee shirt over that.
Unless I'm in a group of ladies/girls swimming I don't waer shorts or pants at all. (It's a personal conviction I have.)

I wear shorts all the time.

And yes, I think you should wear your swimsuit when you go to the beach - don't take it off. ;)

I don't go swimming in mixed company. Only with the girls. I feel convicted if I show my body. My sons one time went to a local park that has a swimming area. They felt uncomfortable to the point they wanted to go HOME>>>>> People don't seem, to know they are naked anymore.

I wear shorts (not too short, not too tight, I'm into comfort) and a one piece swimsuit at the beach but usually with a t-shirt over it. I don't want to expose too much at the beach for fear that some enviornmentalist will toss me into the water while screaming "save the whale!" :D

I wear that Lands End stuff, it isn't cut up to my neck (!) and it doesn't ride up. Because I'm shy, I'm dull, and I don't like showing my behind to people. [IMG]

I don't swim or wear batthing suits, but I do wear shorts, never short, either at my knees or just below, always loose fitting.

What we think is really not relevant. Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons, which I would guess covers more than even a modest bathing suit today. Yet, when God came to the garden, they hid because they knew they were naked.

When God saw them, He did not approve of the aprons they were wearing so He made them both coats of skin to cover their nakedness. So, what you and I feel is acceptable, may not be acceptable to God.

To answer the question, I think shorts and/or swimsuits are improper for Christians to wear in mixed company.

I think shorts or swimsuits are improper to wear, period. Pastor Bob, I agree with most of your post, but I don't think anyone should expose themselves to others of the same sex. Nakedness was not to be looked upon, as in Genesis 9, Exodus 28, Leviticus 18, & Isaiah 47. The problem most face when it comes to improper clothing is the lack of shamefacedness.

I live in Florida. Does this mean that you would preach against going to the beach, and that it is wrong, even sin?

What does locale have to do with nakedness????

Is nakedness is a sin in North Dakota because we don't have beaches, yet in Florida because there are beaches to run naked on it is okay??/

My, my what foolish reasoning.

When flesh is revealed enough to cause one to lust it is nakedness. Don't start with the "one shouldn't be thinking those thoughts." This is true, on the other hand Christian lady shouldn't wear clothing that will trigger those thoughts.

Men on the other hand, cause many to have thoughts of disgust. It amazes me to see some of the gross looking legs and fat bellies of men who think they are so attractive. Probably don't own mirrors.

Most of the ladies I know put on their clothes after salvation, not find reasons to take them off.

Yes, locale and purpose make a difference! Catch a woman in a dressing room in her underwear that covers 1,000% more flesh than her bathing suit and she will be upset. However, strutting down the beach letting more shown and accentuated by swinging and jiggling and she is perfectly fine with that. We have been influenced far more by our culture than we like to think and I thought it was supposed to be Christ, not culture that ruled our lives. Silly me.

With that type of reasoning, Murph, then there is no reason not to go to bars to witness, because that is where the sin is, correct?

A beach is like playing with fire. How do you know that what they are wearing is too much nakedness if you don't see it first. What I am saying is that you have to see what they have on in order to know what they are wearing. Why put yourself into the area of temptation. The Bible says to "flee temptation". Would you bring your teenage son there?

I loved swimming. I loved beaches. I loved swimming pools. I also loved smoking pot and drinking. But this was all of the flesh, in which I put away, with the renewing of my mind.

Another thing to consider is this: Why is it that men are attracted to only certain women? You may be able to walk away, or look women in the eye, but what about that certain one that you just can't help but be stirred by? I may be a woman, but I know that men are different in what causes a stir inside.

Sorry, but another thing just occured to me. You may not look anywhere else but in their eyes, but what about those that aren't saved that are lusting after your flesh?

I reckon you ought to always wear a hat in public then, Brazee. Some women are known to be attracted to skin-headed men.
