    First I think I am of Christ. Second I think I am of the Independent Baptist variety. But lately after reading all this stuff on the BB I wonder.

    Many of the discussions on here remind me of 1 Corinthians 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
    KJV

    Here is a list of some of the things I hold to:

    Total Depravity
    Perseverance of the Saints
    A local visible church
    Salvation by Grace
    Two church ordinances: Baptism and Lord's Supper
    The Bible as the final authority
    Self-ruling local church
    The strict following of I Tim 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9 for Pastors and Deacons.
    The requirement of the Saints to be Holy because God is Holy
    The Trinity
    That Isreal is still to be dealt with in future events
    God is the Creator (It is all His work)

    This is just a few. Where do I fit in the area of Baptist?

    I saw on your website that you were out of NTBC of Paola, KS. Did you know Pastor Dan Kaighen? From the looks of your statement of faith, I'd say you were an IFB with the right standards and practices. This being the case, you're in the minority here but we're growing.

    Bible Student --

    Although I have been a student of the Bible for a
    number of years, I only recent left Arminianism,
    so my knowledge is shaky on some of these
    things. Also, some terms mean one thing to
    one congregation and another to a different
    congregation.

    What do you mean by this?

    What other ordinances do some churches prac-
    tice, besides feet-washing? Are you strictly for
    baptism by immersion?

    What do you mean by this? Do you believe
    that a local congregation should not he at all
    connected to another or to an overseer who is
    not within that particular church?

    How do you define holy?

    As for myself, I am an historic Southern Baptist. As such I hold to:

    * Total Depravity
    * Perseverance of the Saints
    * Salvation by Grace (ALONE)
    * Two Church Ordinances: Baptism & Lord's Supper
    * Sola Scriptura (Bible alone as authoritative for faith and practice)
    * Autonomy (self-government) of the local church
    * The strict following of I Tim 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9 for Pastors and Deacons.
    * Holiness of Life.
    * The Trinity
    * God's future dealings with Israel.
    * Creation / God is Creator of all that exists.

    You must be an historic Southern Baptist! [IMG]

    What are you, friend? Sounds like you are a follower of Jesus Christ, just like many others on this board! [IMG]

    Abiyah,

    Good evening, I am not going to give you scripture at this point I can later if you want it.

    But to answer your questions here goes.

    What do I mean by a local visible church? I can only find in the Bible one type of church on this earth and it is local and visible. I can not find justification for a invisible church, to do so does not make sence.

    Yes, I am strictly for baptism by immersion.

    What I mean by a self-ruling church is that the members have self-rule. There is to be no one but Christ as the ruler of the church. This does not mean that there is no fellowship with other churches of like faith, but those churches of like faith have no say what the local church does only God and His Word.

    What I mean by Holy is this, God has laid out rules and principles in His Word for the Saved to follow. How we live is not a pick and choose what I feel is right or feel ok in doing. On this BB there is a lot of discussion on Smoking, Alcohol, and Gambling and though I believe that there are principles concerning these things there are other things that are important. We as Christians need to deal with bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil speaking, forgivness, not being puffed up, being provoked, not thinking evil, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, and witchcraft jsut to name a few areas of Holiness that I believe todays christians are missing.

    Sorry to get so long on the last answer. I think I have answered your questions. If not let me know and I will try again.

    Thank you, Richard. 8o) It is just that so many
    of us use terminology, and what it means to me
    is often totaly different from what it means to
    another.

    Again, thank you!

    Hi everyone; [IMG]
    You know after reading this and seeing how people take offense so easily about how long have there been Baptist, kind of makes me think. Am I a baptist?, ("well yes I am"), but before being a baptist. I'm a Christian born of water and spirit, forgiven and loved by my Lord and savior so much that He died for me. Am I more Christian simply because I hold to the doctorines of the baptist faith.(No). I'm as much Christian as anyone can be,but I'm Christian First and Baptist because of being placed in a catagory of like minded faiths.I'm Christian because I believe in Jesus Christ and I strive to follow Him...It's Christians that have been around since the time of Christ.I believe Baptist are a segment of Christianty not christianty it self.
