NOw before everyone start slamming CHick this is only a suggeston if you dont like CHick get some tracts from some of the other sites I listed BUt pleas do something

What are you doing for Halloween???
May I suggest hand out tracts. Some Christians will turn off the lighs or go somewhere. Some will participate and hand out candy. I dont feel we should glorify this Holiday BUt I feel if you are in a neighborhood where you will get lots of Kids why not Get some good candy and give them a tract also. Some go so far as to say if you pass out tracts on Halloween you are wrong in participating in this but I disagree what other night do you have people coming to your door with bags open. I think that this is a great idea

Here are some sites that you can get good chldren tracts
www.fellowshiptractleague.org These are free get ones called Heaven and how to get to heaven
www.chick.com Get the THE LITTLE PRINCESS HAPPY HALLOWEEN BOO! - for older children,CHARLIE’S ANTS, BEST FRIEND etc
www.raycomfort.com try HEY KIDS ,ITS THE LAW and HIJACKED

IF you cant afford any please atleast get the free ones from Fellowshiptractleague. Thanks and GOd bless. [IMG]

If I lived in town or an area where children went "trick or treating", I'd pass out "full-size" candy bars & a chick tract! [IMG]

And instead of saying "happy halloween", I'd say "May God bless you and protect you".

I have found for several years now that Chick tracts are EXCELLENT for halloween hand-outs. The kids LOVE the 'cartoon' ones .... we've had kids come back year after year, even go out of their way to come back to our house ... just because of the tracts. We get several large baskets of a variety of little candies and let them take as much as they can fit in one hand. After that, some want to pick their own tract and others we pick one for them. And we too, say "May God bless and protect you!"

Some critics may say that it's a waste, that the kids just read the tracts and forget them .... but that's not our problem. Our duty is to TELL others, drawing and conversion is the Spirit's work.

Our church gave out the tracts free to members who planned on doing this.

After the "tract and treaters" were all gone, I'd take my girls out to dinner wherever they wanted to go .... as a special 'thank you' to them for helping me.

Hey there, Grammy! [IMG] "I've been missing ya, so it's really nice to see you again!" ;)

I liked what you said...about "tract and treaters". I also appreciate the fact that you "thanked" your girls(with a "treat" out to eat) for helping.

When mine were still home, & even now, I try to repay their kindness; if it's only with a big ol' (((hug))).

[IMG] Hi everyone, wow I have not had a chance to even get on here for some time! :(
The last three years our church has sponsered a "Halloween" Party. We call it a Harvest Party and it is for all ages and the kid's parents. We set up tons of game booths and hand out candy and all other kinds of goodies including little booklets about our church and invite them back. We also have a campfire in the field out back and roast hot dogs and make smores. We have had a really good turn out over the years and even a few people have stayed and joined from the invitation.
If I did not have this to go to I would find something simalar. Also our community has a big night that the kids can go to one of the large parks and there is a small lake there. They walk around the lake and there are some scarry things and a ton of stations to go to and get candy and play games. The Police and Fire Department are always there too to show the kids things and to watch over them. Of course there is always the one of the many malls to go to and The St. Louis Zoo sponsers a fun time too! Wow there is a lot to do here! [IMG]
As far as Trick or Treating goes if we do it is usually in my Mom and Dad's neighborhood. It is more familar to me and I know so many people over there that I feel more comfortable.
    Love in Christ Angieinstlouie :D

I think when it really comes down to it DO we believe God's word. FOr those who say tracts dont work are calling God a liar. He says that his word will not return void.

Isa 55:10. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: Isa 55:11. So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

As a Christian, I take offense when someone tries to hand me a tract. Their assumption that I'm not a Christian is offensive, and borders on selfrighteousness. If I take my kids out trick-or-treating, I absolutely don't want anyone handing my children tracts. Their religious instruction should be up to me, not up to them.

Johnv, you're right...your children's religious instruction is your responsbility...and so is feeding your children. Why would you be offended if a stranger handed you (or your child) a gospel tract, but NOT get offended when they hand y'all some food? You say that those people assume you're lost by handing you a tract...then by that same token, wouldn't they assume your destitute if you ring their door bell begging for a 'treat'?

I've been saved for 20 years and it does not bother me at all when someone hands me a tract. I just take it that they care about people who are lost and going to hell.

Our church is having a Preschool and Childrens Fall Festival, with lots of games, candy, and food. And is totally free. We start asking for candy donations at the begining of Oct and we usually end up with tons of candy. Our church youth and parents help put this on and help with all the games. I think it's a good Halloween alternative and everyone is invited. Here is something that I read today and thought it was cute, don't know who the author is to give them credit.

    The Pumpkin Prayer

    Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin help
    me say this prayer:

Open my mind so I can
    learn about You;
(Cut the top of the pumpkin)

Take away all my sins and forgive
me for the wrong things I do.
    (Clean out the inside)

    Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
    (Cut eyes shaped like hearts)

I'm sorry for turning up my nose
    to all You've given me.
(Cut a nose in the shape of the cross)

Open my ears so Your word
    I will hear;
(Cut ears shaped like the bible)

Open my mouth so I can
    tell others You're near.
(Cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)

Let your light shine in all
    I say and do! Amen.
(place a candle inside and light it)

    God bless,
    FYG

    Two thoughts come to mind:

    1) We do not know a person's heart; most espcecially the heart of someone unknown to us. Only God knows if that person is truly born again or not.

    2) God tells us to preach the gospel to every creature and to go into the highways and hedges to reach them.

With these two facts in mind, would it not seem obvious that we should not be offended when someone offers us a tract? Should we not rejoice that someone cares for YOUR SOUL? Should we not rejoice that someone is obeying the command of God by preaching the gospel?

Most of those little children who come around tricking or treating do not have parents who care about their children's spiritual well-being.

That you do care is certainly commendable, but I think maybe that what we should be more concerned about is the spread of unscriptural ideas to our children through religious material they receive. If we train them well, and if we review the tracts/material given to them with them, then this shouldn't be a problem.

Johnv, I certainly hope you can see that when a person hands you a tract that they are only doing what God has told them to do in His word. They care about you!

    Amen,
I have only had three people try to hand me a tract who were born again. One was at an airport, a Jews for Jesus man and the two others IFB's. This is in 11 years of being a Christian. I thanked them for for being out there witnessing and told them to save the tract for the next person because I was already saved. One of them I did take the tract because it was in Spanish, and I was in Spain. I handed it to someone else after realizing what it was.
If only there were more like these handing out tracts, trying to witness. I have been contacted many more times by the Jehovah's Witnesses than Christians. They do what we ought to be doing when it comes to evangelism.

Your comments about tracts caught my eye.
Ii am trying to remember anyone, other than
JWs and Mormons giving me any religious
tracts. I don't recall one time in my 53 years.
That is interesting. But what is more interesting
to me is that I only recall once when a stranger,
other than two women from the Church of Christ
(who got mad at me and were yelling at me as
they left because I would not go to their church!!)
approached me with a verbal message of
    salvation!

What are we doing to reach the world? Putting
our money inn the plate so that someone else
    can do the job?

We don't celebrate Halloween as it is a Satanic holiday, and therefore we will not do anything out of the ordinary to commemorate it. We will go on with our lives as usual.
