Nothing out of the usual. No tricks, no treats.

I was going to a Halloween party, but I think I'll probably be sitting in a duck blind, instead.

Why would you be offended if a stranger handed you (or your child) a gospel tract, but NOT get offended when they hand y'all some food?

The purpose of trick or treating is to show off your cute costume and get candy for it. That is why receiving candy would not be offensivre to me. To receive a bible tract, well... I would liken it to a salesman tactic of bait and switch. It's just not the right venue for it, in my opinion.

Now I wouldn't say "no thanks" and hand it back. I'd be polite and receive it.

You've never heard of a Reformation Celebration? October 31st is Reformation Day, the day Martin Luther did his... well... thing.

It's a school night [IMG] , so I probably won't be doing much of anything. Some coworkers are having a party this weekend, though, and I'll likely go.

Since we've gone this way - I don't think I'd be offended if someone offered me a tract. They don't know my heart when they offer, so they?

Similarly, I wasn't offended when I was invited to a Samhain celebration, and for the same reason.

I don't see Halloween as it's celebrated today as a Satanic holiday. And I'm trying to recall a pagan inviting me to a Halloween anything that wasn't a secular Halloween thing. The times I've been invited to a pagan "Halloween" celebration (which have been many - there were many pagans who celebrated the pagan sabbats at my college), they called it Samhain, not Halloween. There seems to be a distinction, even among pagans.

Martin Luther posted his 95-Theses on the Wittenberg Door on October 31, 1517. This is the "official" beginning of the Protestant Reformation. So, a "Reformation Celebration" is generally a time to thank the Lord for the widespread recovery of the Gospel and to thank Him for the men and women He raised up in this work.

staying at home, giving kids tracts and reeses peanut butter cups (if there are any left by then!)
Our church is having an 'alternative' but I have a problem with alternatives.
I think it is a great opportunity to share the gospel thru tracts, conversation or anyway you can. People are actually coming to your door in droves. how often does that happen?
how many opportunities are we losing out on by being somewhere else that evening.

We live in a rural area and there isn't much chance of trick or treaters coming to my door. Instead the village blocks off through traffic and everyone goes into town to trick or treat and there are carnival games, too.

This area is composed mainly of church going people so the chances of handing a tract to someone who hasn't heard the gospel is pretty slim. Besides, from my experience Christians are pretty defensive about this holiday because they don't want to give up their precious festivities even if it's just one night out of the year.

Bryan, I love the idea of collecting food!

Oh, I forgot to mention what we're doing for Halloween.

We're inviting other abstainers in the area for a potluck and board games and movies. Not costumes or Halloween decorations. ;)

Well I don't observe halloween at all, but I do think passing out tracts is a great idea.
What am I doing on halloween? Staying at home and reading, or pestering people at the BB.
    I will go to our church's fall festavel tomorrow night. You can dress up as long as it'snothing bloody of develish. Kids can play games, go on a hay ride, and throw wet sponges at the deacons, and do a cake walk. We will also have a supper. The past three years I've worked in the games section. {Let me tell ya, watch out for darts when it comes to the balloon poping game!}
The past two years we've had some interesting things happen. Such as one of the men falling down during a cake walk and slipping a disk, some dropping a 3 letter drink, and it shot down the hall shooting fizz, oh, and how could I forget the time that we emtied the bucket for the apple bobbing game, and the bucket got turned over before we could get it outside?
Dear Lord please don't let anything like that happen this year!
    ~Abby

I am very much like Granny Gumbo, in my approach. When we moved into our home, we knew our neighborhood had a reputation for kids coming out at Halloween. Buses from the city filled with kiddos and their parents descend on our subdivision, streets are blocked, policeman mingle and roam the neighborhood to assist and maintain a very "Mayberryesque" order. It's a fun evening for children. Last year, following 9-11, we still had over 750 kids come on our porch. This year, if the weather holds, they expect double that.

Last year, after completing training in FAITH, I used our tracts to relate, talk, and witness to folks who came by, and always directed the main witnessing to the parents who stood behnd the kiddos; lots of folks didn't give much time, either. Don't know the results or effects, yet, but we did walk the entire neighborhood the next day and found only one tract on the ground. Lots of candy wrappers though.

I also have the reputation for giving out the good candy, full sized candy bars, so they remember more favorably the time spent here and will want to return - even parents got candy. This year, I've spent over $250 on a variety of the full sized bars. And the tracts are already ready to present.

We waffled a long time about my kiddos trick or treating. For years we did not participate, and then felt like hypocrites for going to a church festival which basically did the very same things. So, last year, we let them make their own costumes, and go out. It reminded me of when I was much younger and made my own when I went. Last year, my son stuffed a huge orange sweat shirt and put a smile on it in black construction paper, going as a pumpkin. This year, my daughter want to be a flower. At each home, they give a tract, and bless the home in Jesus' name, as they receive candy gratefully. Not as a show or to be seen being religious, but to relate to our neighbors, and let those who are believers know they are not alone. I am thrilled that those who are believers have not been "offended" that I gave a tract or asked where they worshipped, or even asked them about their faith. I got a chance to hear many great heart warming testimonies by those who stayed to relate, and not in a hurry to see how many cavities they could get their kids by getting their treat bags stuffed full.

This is where my family and home stand on it, and it's been a blessing to us, and He is so faithful that His word never returns void. Rejoice! Nothing more important than knowing Christ Jesus, and besides Him, nothing else matters.
