If it "all boils down" to support for Isreal we have a lot of work to do. Perhaps we should stop dealings with all anti-Isreal states, even sanction them economically. I am not talking about troops, but money.

Lets take little Ireland for example. As anti-Israel as a state can be. Yet, Ireland is being propped up and supported by American companies. It is estimated that well over half of Ireland's economy is based on US dollars. Surely we could bring this anti-Israel nation to her knees with simple sanctions. Ireland consistantly votes against Isreal unless the US puts the thumbscrews on, so lets just put on the thumbscrews permanently. The only reason Ireland allowed the US to land planes at Shannon for refueling was because the loss of that airport would have cost the west of Ireland millions of dollars.

If support of Israel is our only matter of import, let us act on it.

    BOYCOTT AND SACNTION IRELAND!

Keeping in mind, Israel has bombed Iraq long before Saddam lobbed SCUDs at Israel.

Until that point, all combat between Israel and Iraq was on Arab ground.

I thought Arafat was in Gaza? Did Ireland really send those people, or did they go on their own?

Pre-emptive to be sure. Would you rather wait on another attack first?

It doesn't matter about the intelligence. Saddam himself led us to beleive he had them.

Not liking Saddam was not the reason for the war. Why do you call him a brutal tryant?

The next countries we will have to deal with are Iran, North Korea, and probably Syria. One at a time. Do you consider North Korea a threat to the United States? You need to consider that they are developing nuclear weapons and delivery systems for them. Also consider support for other countries that we have pledged. Those pledges make North Korea a direct threat to us.

Good point - you are right correct that they were not sent in as government policy.

My point is that if being anti-Israeli is the main point there are many countries who do not need military action, but surely need economic action to be taken.

Of course I think N. Korea is a threat, a viable, actual, proven threat. That is why I am frustrated that we are tied down in Iraq. I have no problem with the action in Afghanistan.

    1. Admit to the people of Iraq that we made a mistake

    2. Apologize to the people of Iraq

    3. Quit trespassing in Iraq

    4. Bring our troops, etc., home

    5. Apologize to the world for our selfishness

    6. Learn from this mistake

    7. Be very much more careful for whom we vote in the future!

It's an extremely difficult dilemma. One the one hand, Iraq was clearly the wrong war in the wrong place; I think we all now know that (ironically, only Saddam it would appear was giving out accurate and truthful info on whether or not he had WMDs).

    OTOH:-

    1. We are there now. To withdraw now would be to leave the Iraqis whom we supposedly went to help well and truly in the lurch, and leave Iraq a more violent, more dangerous, even more cruel place (yes that is possible) than under Saddam - and quite probably more of a threat to western interests (it is effectively now a breeding ground for Al-Qaeeda).

    2. What if, having withdrawn, our dear friends in the Islamic Republic of Beardies and Nutters next door (Iran) subsequently announce that they have nuclear capability? What could we do about it? If nothing else, Iraq is at least a base for action against this, IMO, greater threat.

Re the Israel -v- Iraq thing, I think we're playing chicken and egg here. The sequence of events is as follows:-

    1. 1947-9 Iraqi troops took part in the Arab League attack on the nascent state of Israel

    2. 1979-2003 Saddam funded and supported the PLO and other Palestinian terrorist organisations

    3. 1981 - Israel launched an air strike on an alleged Iraqi nuclear program facility deep in Iraq

    4. 1991 - Saddam lobbed Scuds into Israel

    Yours in Christ

    Matt

We are not making things better by staying there; we are making things yet worse.

That is a good one  ! Why don’t we just add a star to the American flag  ?
