What does a believer's commitment mean to you?

Do you see it as a promise to Christ?

If not, what does a believer's commitment mean to you?

It means that he is willing to have Jesus call the shots in his life going forward now!

That would be about his faith in Jesus Christ rather than a believer's commitment.

Commit does not always mean "I will" which is what a commitment refers to whomsoever is making it. Sometimes commit means to "entrust" as in to roll over the burden to another".

Commitment can never be about faith in Jesus Christ because that believer's commitment is what the believer has made; declaring to Christ what he is going to do by keeping that commitment. Therefore a believer's commitment is about the believer and him keeping that commitment goes to his credit and thus his glory. That is why it seen as a promise by Freemasons, AA, and NA.

A believer's faith in Jesus Christ & His promises to us needs no commitment nor promises from us, but to rest in Him as our Good Shepherd that He will help us to follow Him as He is the power for living the Christian life.

No one can see the believer's faith in Him helping him to follow Him if he is claiming he is keeping his commitment by how he is following Him or doing any good thing by keeping that commitment. Indeed, any commitment to make oneself a better Christian is again, his work, not His work. It is one of the many reasons why Christian commitment keepers walk away from Christ; it is too hard to keep no matter how much the spirit is willing, the flesh is weak.

That is why we can only testify to our faith in Jesus Christ because that speaks of Him so that sinners may also place all their hopes in Him not just for eternal life by simply believing in Him, but place their hopes in Him to break sin's dominion over their lives so they can follow Him in living that reconciled relationship with God thru Jesus Christ as their personal Good Shepherd.

We are not called to make a commitment for Jesus, but are called to abide in Jesus!

Correct by believing in Him to be our Friend and Good Shepherd to help us follow Him by faith in Him & all His promises to us alone. So no commitment nor promises are required from us but trusting Him and placing our faith in Him is required for any relationship to be "fruitful" and "progressive".

It is bad invitation to believe. Why? Salvation is received as a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is not do to anything we can do or say. God does it, and God does the keeping (Hebrews 10:16-17).

Isn't a commitment to Christ a form of oath taking he forbids? How did it work out for Peter after the roosters crowed?

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Are you commited to your wife, and did you not take an oath to do that?

It is not in our power to make and fulfill vows to Christ. Peter tried this.

It's not the same. Peter vowed to follow Christ and failed. Because salvation is not in our power.

A commitment would be us agreeing with God that we should strive to please and obey Him!

It's more like asking Him not to lead us into temptation.

When did Paul ever vow to follow Christ in the flesh?
