A recent poll seems to have provoked more discussion about this question than about the poll questions.

Reconciliation. "Peace" with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Does it require more than faith to be "right with God?" I have encountered leaders who believe you must do "this or that" in order to be "right with God."

Good question. I hope we'll hear from more members on this one.

to be right with God simply is to be faithful and obedient to His will.

I couldn't answer, to me, to be right with God means made right through salvation, not my righteousness but the righteousness of Jesus.

Although I don't think we can believe in Jesus by our own will; I think we can only be 'right' with God through Christ.

What do we mean by 'right'?

It might help to define that, are we talking about simply being on God's side, or are we talking about righteousness imputed to us?

Couldn't vote. Gosh, like a Philippine teacher with her pen poised to sign another one of her loans, I had my pointer ready.

There was no 'none of the above', unless I missed it.

We can only be right with God in Christ , outside of him, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).

From the 1828 Webster's Dictionary [approved version by the Ky. board of hillbilly english professors :D ]

Emphasis mine. While reading, remember this:

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one that seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

    John 6.37-40

Wouldn't it depend on if you are talking about salvation or living for God after being saved?

Everybody I read on here seemed right to me, depending on which context they saw the poll in. Salvation means being right with God by coming to Him through Jesus Christ. After you are saved a sin in your life can come "between" you and God like disobedience comes "between" our children and ourselves as their parents. When you get that sin out of there, confess it to God, strive to do His will in your particular life, etc., than you are right with God in that context. That's a daily issue with you and God, but its after salvation....the ultimate getting right with God.
