Does it mean to be prayerful all the time?

Does it mean that we should pray for the same thing over and over and over until we get an answer?

Is it possible to pray for something once and have faith that God will answer?

True prayer comes from the heart.I believe it means that your heart should always be singing God's praises, which is a form of prayer,.This kind of prayer can be constantly done when we have put ourselves under His control. pray unceasingly...WP

    Dear Thankful,

Grace and Peace to you from our Lord Jesus who continues to enlighten us everyday even when we do not notice it.

A line does not stop, but it continues on and on forever; treat prayer the same way. Pray at night. Pray in the daylight. Pray when you succeed. Pray when you fail. In sadness, pray. In joy, pray (Phillpians 4:4, James 5:13). Ask God to guide you at every moment in your life.

I hope that these words encourage you to devote your life to the Lord more and more. Above everything else, remember that God hears those that acknowledge Him, not those who stand against Him. This is how we know that we acknowledge Him: those who do not stand against God obey Christ in everyway.

May the Love of God continue to strengthen you as you walk the same steps as His Son Jesus walked.

    Amen.

    Amen.

Jesus teaching: Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

I think what Christ meant here is praying something just to be praying and not meaning it. Such as saying something over and over again without any real belief or conviction.

God hears us if we ask according to His will.

1Jn 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

If I reaaly have something on my heart I will ask God every night until I have an answer, even if it is not the answer I wanted because I know that God knows what is best for me and everyone else in any situation.

I think that "pray without ceasing" encourages us to always remain in an attitude of prayer with God and to walk closely with Him as if we are constantly talking with Him, always seeking Him and His will.

    G

This is just my two cents, but I believe that praying without ceasing means to be in the spirit of prayer at all times.

Keep the lines of communication open between you and God so that when He is ready to speak to your heart about a matter, He can without you having a heart filled with something else that distracts you.

Also this helps you to be in a constant mode of readiness for praise, thanksgiving, petitioning, and whatever your prayer life consists of. You can be ready at all times to commune with God via "prayer".

We are not to be constantly whispering "prayer requests" to God. We can't do that. We are sinful and weak. And besides that we are asleep for one-third of our lives. We can't pray while we sleep.

But we should be ready to listen intently to His voice at any given moment and ready to speak whatever the Holy Spirit inspires us to at any given moment.

Keep a mind that is focused on God and His desire for a communing with you. Sometimes He speaks. Sometimes we speak.

    Be ready.

    All the time.

    Peace-

Both praise and petitions should be words of prayer, and with a Christian the thoughts of these has to be a way of life. Hence, Paul's assertion that one must pray without ceasing should fit the profile of a true believer. [IMG]

Case example: I live in NYC. When I go out with a car for shopping, I pray to the Lord that He'll provide parking. With stringent laws, curtailing double parking, and the millions of people who come in daily to work here, makes it almost impossible to find a spot. When I find one, I immediately give thanks to the Lord for it.

When I hear of a bad accident on the radio, as I drive by, I immediately utter a few words to the Lord and ask Him to prevent fatalities. I pray for my own safety, and those who were involved in the accident, the family, the circle of friends, the doctors who may be called upon to do emergency surgery, etc.

Here on the Baptist Board, there are so many prayer requests daily. As I read them all, I pray for the particular need and then post a brief answer. I rejoice with them who come back and have good report. An answer to prayer. I empathize with those who are anxiously awaiting good news about their loved ones, like Bro. Chris Temple, our former Moderator and friend.

Pray without ceasing does not mean that you do not have time to do other things, and to interact with people, but when the time allows it and your heart is burdening to the need of others - then you do pray, and bear their burdens to the throne of grace. [IMG]

I liken it to walking down the street and having an ongoing conversation with God. As another has said, it is an attitude rather than a said prayer.

    Cheers,

It's been explained to me that I Thes. 5:17 means to pray like a dripping faucet. Drip, Drip, Drip, Drip. ;)

\o/ Glory to the Lord \o/

\o/ Praise be to Jesus \o/

I've been working on this scripture 12 years:

    1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (nKJV):

    16. Rejoice always,
    17. pray without ceasing,
    18. in everything give thanks; for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Early on i just concentrated on verse 17:
"pray without ceasing". I found out real quick
that the grocery list kind of praying is
NOT what is being talked here. The clue is
in the context. I mean the context is "rejoice always"
and "in everything give thanks". So what is
being spoken of here is the prayer of thanks.
The grocery list kind of praying is
NOT sustainable; the thankful kind of prayer
is sustainable. We all need to be thankful
(the state of thankfulness, not the poster Thankful [IMG] ).

Thankful: "How do I deal with this?"

    Read your moniker.
    Do you moniker.
    Keep doing your nickname.

God the Spirit knows my heart and the groanings and longings and desires that I fell intuitively but can't even verbalize.

THAT is the kind of intercession that this home boy needs! Praise His name!

To me, it means to have constant lines of communication open (both ways) with the Lord. Also, and especially when it's impossible to be talking and/or listening to more than one at the same time, I believe it means that we should be worshipping him in our thoughts, actions and words, no matter WHAT we're doing. Praying isn't just a bunch of 'requests' or talking or even just listening .... it's an act of worship and praise, too. He inhabits the praises of his children, so how better to get up close and personal with him than praising him? Our actions and thoughts can also be forms of praise and worship, as we are obedient to him. JMHO. [IMG]

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate them very much. I talk to the Lord all the time, all day long, and when I awake during the night.

I am so ever thankful for His many blessings. I praise Him for His wonderful works and the amazing things that he does.

My husband and I will be traveling this week.
