    What did ever happen to Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority organization. I read his 1987 autobiography and he talked quite a bit about it. But nowadays it seems like it has died out for some reason. I never found out what happened to that organization. I was too young and not saved at the time it was making big waves. Do you know what happened?

    The Christian Coalition is still around if you're interested in things like that.
    Personally, I don't feel that God gives His blessings to such groups, no matter how well intended.
    We are to change the world by leading people to Jesus, not by legislative fiat.
    You can't force people to become righteous by law.

    There are many of us who believe the "Moral Majority" died out because it was neither. :D

    I believe although I am not sure:

    The Moral Majority paid a $50,000 fine to the IRS and then the doors closed.

    I will do some checking to see if I can substantiate this.

    Thanks ------Bart

    It seems the MM may have gone down the tubes after its leader was found with a...what shall we say?...a women of less than perfect reputation...

    MM had quite a few "leaders". There was the national leader and each state had a leader, which are you talking about? Can you be more specific?

    Thanks -------Bart

    Why, isn't it obvious I'm talking about none other than Mr. Falwell himself? That isn't to say that I, or any of us for that matter, can claim to be sinless...

    The following link (Click Here) has in depth info about the defunct Moral Majority and says nothing about sexual inpropriety. It's possible you may be comfusing it with PTL of Jim & Tammy Bakker fame???

    Hi Y'all;

    Could also be thinking of Jimmy Swaggert,(caught patronizing a prostitute), who I believe is/was Assembly of God. I think it would have been front page headlines if Falwell was ever caught in a compromising situation.

    If memory serves there is a good chance that churches promoting political agendas can lose their tax-exempt status. Of course it does not seem to apply to liberal churches that have a Clinton, a Gore, a Jessie Jackson, an Al Sharpton, etc. as speaker.

    May God bless His precious children.

    Churches whose primary function becomes political action can lose their tax exempt status as a religious and charitable organization. However, they can regain tax exempt status by filing as a political organization. The Moral Majority was a non-religious political organization and was tax exempt.

    Hi John;

    I think there was a controversy, as to interpretation of the political agenda and "primary function". I think it was at a point that many conservative congregations were being attacked for any politicizing from the pulpit.

    It might be a case of who is doing the interpreting, and who the reporting.

    God bless.

    John,

    I could be wrong here, but I believe Jim and Tammy's downfall was embezzelment and illegal financial dealings, not a sexual sin. You may have been thinking of Jimmy Swaggart with, I believe it was, Jessica Hahn.

    To answer the question, I believe the Bible teaches us that there is no such thing as a moral Majority. The Majority of people in this world are immoral. The Moral Majority never existed. It was a hoax. I have never heard of any sexual impropriety with Jerry Falwell, however.

    No, Jessica was with Mr. Bakker. She went on to pose for Playboy. I will not supply the link.

    Jimmy was with some unnamed, er, woman.
