Pastors and elders do have more to lose, but exercising self-control is something we all have to do.

I agree, we are all charged with Christ like conduct 24/7. I am not sure about elders, as very few Baptist churches have them. As far as pastors go, they lead the local church here on earth. They feed the flock. One of the reason the consequences are higher, besides the fact more is expected in a leadership position, is that their income is coming from the congregation. Mine is coming from a private company. Big difference between a paycheck and no paycheck.

Actually quite a few Baptist, and baptistic churches, have elders. Almost every Reformed Baptist church has elders. Grace Community Church (John MacArthur) would fall under the category of baptistic (i.e. they are functionally Baptists without calling themselves such) and they have elders. But I digress.

As far as the paycheck dynamic, I personally know a number of pastors who are tent makers because their church is unable to fully support them. Even those churches that do keep their pastors at subsistence levels which is a grievous thing in my opinion. I know, that is a whole other discussion. But whether they are paid or not they are to set an example for others to follow.

Oh, yeah, there are several of them here. I think James Ach went back to OnlineBaptist to troll over there, but there are still several of them here.

Between the Calvinist bashers, the "Me Church" crowd, and Annsi and her little clique, I'm more and more convinced I don't really care to meet anybody here in person.

For Clarification, when you say "I don't reallly care to..." are you saying that in the East-Tennessee meaning, or the everywhere else meaning?

    Does that mean:

    a) You don't want to... (most places)

    b) It wouldn't bother me to do that, It would cost me no "care" (no concern or anxiety) to do that. (East Tennessee)

I'm just asking because my pastor is from east Tennesee, and I would ask him if he wanted to get lunch, and he would say, "I don't care to do that." What he meant was: "Yea, I'll do that, it doesn't bother me."

...It took me 5 years to figure that out.

My family is originally from East Tennessee, back when it was still country, before it became the Branson of the East and I've never heard that. Doesn't mean anything, though. There are lots of things I've never heard of. Doesn't make it not so.

Where I grew up, "three sheets to the wind" just meant carefree and having a good time. I didn't find out until I moved up North and got a pastor friend in trouble for describing him as being "three sheets to the wind" that, up North, it means you're drunk.

But, in any event, I mean I have no desire to and would probably cross the street to avoid them if I saw one of them coming.

Don't cry. Based on the posts directed at me, I can't imagine any of you would be any happier about meeting me.

So based on John 13:35, I cannot include you as one of Jesus' disciples.

Based on Scripture, there is a good chance you won't have to worry about meeting any of us in eternity.

Um...JDF...where is that alleged question you claimed to pose that I refused to answer?

Right here: How do you reconcile your behavior toward me with John 13:35.

Now the ball is in your court. Are you going to answer it or not?

:laugh: So you have proven on the other thread you are following me around on that you are indeed a liar for having claimed to ask that question and me failed to answer.

    What does Revelation 21:8 say?

My behavior towards you is as it should be. I supply the Scripture and let it speak to your own words

Actually, I did ask you. You still haven't answered it.

On the other hand, by quoting your own words declaring me to be unsaved, I did expose your claim that you did not declare me to be unsaved to be a lie.

No, you answer my question first.

    Which is....?
