    From another thread:
Jesus was in the wilderness 40 days before he hungered.

Possibly what the pastor meant was that children were not starving. We often say we are hungary, but it does not mean we must eat.

From what I read about hunger strikes after so many day's without food the body does not crave food any longer and after a long period of time without food the body will began to consume it's internal organs.

During WWII in some places in America food was rationed. Folks with connections were able to obtain, perhaps on the black market, extra ration tickets. Here is a true story of one such fat cat:

Circa 1942 in southern California a young wife put her two skinny girls in their red "flyer" wagon and pulled them toward the main boulevard. Reaching the street she turned west because the butcher shop was in the next block. As she approached, a large car made a "U" turn and parked in front of the shop. A large man hopped out and hurried into the shop before the mom and her two skinny girls. As he neared the counter, he pulled out a wad of ration tickets and asked to buy a pork roast. The butcher, looked past the man and saw the mom enter his shop, and saw the two skinny girls sitting in the wagon.

The butcher turned to the man with all the ration tickets, smiled and said he was sorry but the pork roast was sold. Well how about these pork chops? Sold said the butcher. Everything is sold. So sorry.

Getting the idea, the large man abruptly turned the marched out of the shop. As he was going through the door, the butcher said in a loud voice to the mother, "How would you like some pork chops!

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
