What Is the Minimum Age of A Senior Pastor?

Can someone who is still in let's say his teens be an effective senior pastor, or say in his early twenties, maybe still in his twenties? Is there a minimum age limit?

I guess it depends on how big the church is. If there is ten people, a 20 year old might be a good senior pastor, being as he will be the only staff.

John Gill became the Senior Pastor at 22 , after an internship at another church .

John Rippon , his successor ( and my namesake on the BB ) became Pastor at 20 .

A fellow called Spurgeon became Pastor of the same congregation at 19 .

I didn't know there was an age requirement. I thought it had more to do with spiritual maturity and leadership abilities. I pastored my first church at 19, whilst still a student in Bible College. The majority of members were over 50 years of age and precious few young people and I had been a Baptist for fewer than 6 months.

It was at the close of the war in England, and few "men" were available to pastor many churches. What to do? Say I am too young and let the churches go barren?

Frankly, I think we are modelling our churches under a business mentality rather than the task at hand. Some men do not mature at 50, and some are ready to go at a much younger physical age. Just look around!

    Cheers,

    Jim

I don't know the answer to that question, but my wife says that I can't let my voice quaver when I preach until I turn 60.

Here I thought the question was what's the minimum age to belong the senior group. I was going to say 55.

This is a completely different question. To me, "senior" pastor means a man with a pastoral staff. A pastoral staff means a church of a certain size. Size means somewhere north of 100 for at least one assistant.

A man younger than 21 can pastor a small work. There are exceptions, Spurgeon comes to mind.
