What is YOUR "Life Verse"

Many of us have a "life verse" or a favorite verse of scripture. Mine is Romans 14:8, "For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's."

What is your life verse - and why?

    Prov.3:5-6
5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

This one has been with me along time. A while ago I was going through some rough times and everywhere I turned, this verse was coming at me. People were telling it to me, I was hearing it on the radio, seeing it online, everywhere! I couldn't escape it. LOL

For a little while now I'm really seeing Phil. 2:5-11 (especially 9-11) [IMG] Love that...
5Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. 6Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. 7He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. 8And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. 9Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

That's one of my favorites too. To me it is one of those verses where you have to pause and let it really sink it. At least, I do. [IMG]

Mine has changed several times during my life, but for the last 10 years it has been II Kings 22:14

And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Because I have been called to proclaim the Word:
2 Cor. 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus' sake.

(1 Cor. 2:2 would be 2nd place) [IMG]

I was very confused when I was asked as a new believer for less than 18 mos. what my life verse was. I think the term is misleading as not all Christians have been believers for that long. I had to ask the person what they meant. I honestly did not know. Then I was concerned because I had to come up with one real quickly.

I would say that one of my favorites is Col. 1:13-14, but as life changes, my "life" verse changes. ;) [IMG]

The term 'life verse' is new to me. I heard it for the first time maybe 2 years ago and I've been a Christian for 46 years.

My favorites change often, according to the situation. I do, tho, as a non Calvinist, love this one....

18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. 19 He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 20 God chose Him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, He was sent to the earth for all to see. And He did this for you.
    1 Peter 1:18

You know, mine has a tendency to do that too. [IMG] However, there is always that one that seems to permeate my heart. Something that sums up my Christian walk or my belief; and that is the verse in Romans.

Lately though, there is one that has etched itself on my heart.

"...But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay." Jeremiah 20:9

That verse just does something to me.

For me, since this actually HAPPENED while I was in prison, I have "adopted"...
    Psalm 34:6

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

When called to preach in the prisons, the Lord gave me this one...

    Deut. 15: 7-11

    De 15:7
If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
    De 15:8
But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
    De 15:9
Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
    De 15:10
Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
    De 15:11
For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

There really are none so poor as they who are in prison. Poor in spirit, poor in hope, poor in joy, poor in life, poor, poor, poor. What better thing could one give to the "poor" in prison than the Gospel?

    In HIS service;
    Jim

    Romans 8:28

28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Over 10yrs. ago I had a miscarriage. It was my first pregnancy after 5yrs. of trying to conceive. My father, who is not one to show many emotions, gave me this verse. It is a verse I have clung onto knowing the promise God gave us. That He will watch over us even in the bad times and bring about good through it all. [IMG]

Hi everyone!!! This is one of my personal favorites and can be a great measuring stick for a Christian!!!

    2 Corinthians 5:17
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Had not heard the term Life Verse before, but I understand it.

When I was saved, my friend who lead me to Christ told me to keep these sections of verse with me at all times.

    Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

    Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away, behold new things have come.

That day, March 23, 2002, I wrote this from my heart to remember what happened. Sometimes I use different words when I share it.

    I Was A Lamb

I was a lamb who was out of the fold
    and off the trail.

My feet were stuck between rocks and I
    was caught in thorny brush.

Surely I would have died from my wounds
    or from thirst.

The Holy Spirit said, "Cry out!"

    Jesus heard me.

HE freed my feet and pulled away the thorns.

HE healed my wounds and gave me
    Living Water to drink.

HE holds me in HIS arms, close to HIS chest,
and when it is time to go home,
    HE will carry me there.

Thanks for sharing your Life Verses. I especially like the ones that tell why and also quote the scripture.

If you get a chance read, www.FibroFix.com/Testimony.html

It is truly, "An Amazing Story".

    I love this verse = Isaiah 43 verse 2
2When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
He is always with me ....
