Nice to see you still here. I haven't visited this board for quite awhile. Anything New happening?

Father TP! It's great to see you again.

Yes, something new is happening. Give me an email if you would, I have a question for you.

I was wondering how long it would take for brother Weber to get to this point. Seeing the title from Carson I was curious to know "prayer to whom?".

So from the above - can I infer that you mean "prayer to God, prayer to Mary and prayer to Angels"?

Are there others? How about Catholic leaders who have died? Relatives who have died?

The truth is that all of the above are perfectly acceptable in the Catholic view of "prayer".

    In Christ,

    Bob

Actually no. When I go to prayer I do exactly what Jesus commanded me to do.

    Matthew 6:6,7
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

I do not sing, and I certainly don't repeat prayers over and over again as the Heathen Catholic do for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

The definition of prayer is talking to God. That is what I do--talk to God. When I go to my own earthly Father I do not sing to Him when I desire something from him, I humbly request of him what I need. And so it is with my Heavenly Father. I enter into my "closet", i.e., bedroom (or some other private place) and pray to my Father in secret. It would be well for Catholics to learn what prayer is.

Hi Bob, the topic of the thread is "What is your prayer life like?", not "What is the prayer life of others like?" or even further, "What do you think about others' prayer?"

What is your prayer life like?

Would anyone else like to contribute to this thread by describing their prayer life?

    Greetings,

Liturgy of the Hours: Which for non-catholics it means I pray psalms, petitions, etc in the morning, and I pray more psalms petitions, etc. in the evening and at night. I also meditate on mysteries of the faith during the day. Add to this Mass every day(5 times for the weekend). Plus all the weddings, funerals, baptism, anointings, counsellings, I pray with everyone all day. I love what I do.

    peace

Pardon me but isn't the question, "What is YOUR prayer life like?"

It isn't, "Tell me what you pray and I will cut you down like a weed."

It isn't, "Show me how you pray and I will tell you where you are wrong."

It seems to me that the question is just asking about YOUR prayer life. No rebuttals. No criticism. No slams.

Just say what YOUR daily prayer life is like. Don't deride others for what they do.

    Aloha and God Bless,

    Paul

I appreciate the mention of the prayers to the dead and to the angels - oh and also to God that have been mentioned here.

I myself don't pray to the dead or to angels - but I do pray to God as many on this board have mentioned. I find that God alone is able to hear and answer my prayers - because He alone is all knowing, all powerful, all hearing etc. He alone is worthy of my prayers, praise, worship.

Christ as God is my One High Priest - my One Intercessor - standing in the Heb 8-9 Heavenly Sanctuary and interceeding on my behalf before the ONE and ONLY "Holy Father".

Because we come to Him - and Him ALONE - we may expect to experience His "Real" abiding presence of peace and acceptance - and indeed that is exactly what I have found. Praying through the Bible - stopping to meditate and listen to the voice of God - and God Alone.

    In Christ,

    Bob

Have you considered that "prayer" is the "highest form of worship" that the Bible presents?

Notice that meditation and song are given in the case of Israel regarding David singing "Saul has slain his thousands but David his ten thousands".

Dwelling on the deeds of David and singing his praises - did not constitute that highest form of "worship" that we find "prayer to be".

In prayer we are "Actively" showing our faith and belief that the One we pray to is "ABLE to hear" because He is "all knowing and All present". In our petitions to Him we Show that we truly believe He is "able to provide" since He is "all powerful". Prayer is taking the statements of belief ABOUT the One we pray TO and placing faith IN Action. As such - it is the highest form of worship for it is "Action" born out of doctrine and belief.

Israel did not "pray to David" after he died. Even IN Parable Lazarus does not "pray to Abraham" rather he SEES AND SPEAKS to Abraham directly - person to person.

But "prayer" of millions to God - ALL of them expecting to be heard - all expecting the personnal and attentive response of God who is all present, all knowing, and all powerful to deliver - is seen to be "the highest form of worship" known to man.

    In Christ,

    Bob
