What must one do to be saved???

I have aleady answered the question from Acts 2:38 one is baptized by the authority of Jesus Christ.

"By the authority of..." or "in the name of..."? Which is stated in Acts 2:38? and was{were} there name{s} which were declared at your baptism? and what was it {were they}?

As for your question about signs following, the promise was not made to me, but the apostles.

If the promise was not made to you, then you are not among "them that believe," of which the signs are evident... or else this passage does not belong in the canon.

And then miracles, healing, tongues, et al, were endowed and used at Corinth as I Corinthians 12 indicates.

And then as to confirmation, unmistakable miracles are confirmation, but definitely not the junk seen today such as healing a stomach or back ache... it would take someone with a missing arm or leg being replaced in view to get me to believe any 'healing' is a "miracle." And that would be a confirmation. The Bible, on the other hand, does not confirm anything unless a person has already been persuaded by someone or by some means that it is true. And obviously people believe in the 'truth' of many other books of miraculous acconts which cannot be duplicated today. So the Bible does not qualify as evidence if its "miracles" cannot be proven. I think you are brainwashed and nothing else.

 

Cynic:
One is convinced and convicted by the word. Romans 10:17, ACTS 2: 40. Jesus said," These things are WRITTEN that YOU might believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God and that believing You might have life through his name. It is the word that saves. James 1:18,21.

 

Cynic:
You make an unsubstantiated assertion about the text and miracles. The promise of the miraculous gifts were to the apostles. JOhn 14:26, 15:26, John 16;13, Luke 24:49,50, Acts 2:1,17,38. The miraclous gifts were given to those in Acts 10 ( gentiles as fulfillment Joel 2:28.( all flesh). The only way one ma receive these gifts was throuhg the laying on of the apostles hands, Acts 8:17,18. I Cor. 12-14 is, indeed teaching about those who had the miraculous gifts, They received them by the laying on of the apostles hands. However, this promise was not for me as it was to last UNTIL THAT WHICH IS PERFECT OR COMPLETE IS COME. I Cor. 13:8-10. Today, the perfect and complete last will and testament of Christ is here. II Tim. 3:16,17. Therefore, the miraculous gifts have ceased. They were for a limited time not for all time. I do not believe you are brainwashed. You just do not know the Bible very well.

 

St. Ignatius was the Bishop of Antioch and was martyred for the Catholic Faith c. A.D. 110. In his Epistle to the Smyrneans, he writes

CHAPTER VII.--LET US STAND ALOOF FROM SUCH HERETICS (THE GNOSTICS).

They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes. But it were better for them to treat it with respect, that they also might rise again. It is fitting, therefore, that ye should keep aloof from such persons, and not to speak of them either in private or in public, but to give heed to the prophets, and above all, to the Gospel, in which the passion of Christ has been revealed to us, and the resurrection has been fully proved. But avoid all divisions, as the beginning of evils.

CHAPTER VIII.--LET NOTHING BE DONE WITHOUT THE BISHOP.

See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid.

CHAPTER IX.--HONOUR THE BISHOP.

Moreover, it is in accordance with reason that we should return to soberness[of conduct], and, while yet we have opportunity, exercise repentance towards God. It is well to reverence both God and the bishop. He who honours the bishop has been honoured by God; he who does anything without the knowledge of the bishop, does in reality serve the devil. Let all things, then, abound to you through grace, for ye are worthy. Ye have refreshed me in all things, and Jesus Christ shall refresh you. Ye have loved me when absent as well as when present. May God recompense you, for whose sake, while ye endure all things, ye shall attain unto Him.

Did I mention that St. Ignatius was ordained by St. Peter the Apostle and learned at the feet of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist?

Wow, this thread is still running. I am suprised to see that after being gone for a month on vacation this is still running. I thought for sure this thread would have been locked down by now because it was so long.
