Is that suggesting that man has a choice and a free will to choose?

Are you saying that she has the free will to choose to be a Calvinist?

Why, do you think true calvinists don't believe in free will?

    Cheers,

    Jim

Some do and some don't. It depends on if they believe people are robots or not. Personally I find many of them to makes great claims about the sovereignty of God until it affects their theology of evil. That is another reason why I wouild not claim to be a calvinist. In my discussions with some of them I find that their claims of the sovereignty of God and their theology of evil do not mix.

Do you understand the permissive will of God under absolute sovereignty? If you don't, you fail to even begin to understand calvinism.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I am afraid that calvinists are like Baptists in that their theology has huge ranges in theological perspectives. Some would agree with you and others would not.

The absolute sovereignty of God is the first line of calvinism. There is no variety of thought here or they are not calvinists. You may confuse hyper-calvinists and some who dare to call themselves calvinists, but has been a common error beginning with those who clain foreknowledge as a base for election.

Under the absolute sovereignty of God there is the permissive will of God which allows for the actions of humanity, saved and unsaved, to behave according to their own wills, or determination. The difference is that God has the final word and this is a far cry from being a robot. It is like your freedom to swing your fist. It ends at the tip of my nose.

Too often you have misrepresented calvinism, and I just wanted to keep this straight.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I would agree with you but that is not what I have always read on the BB in the past from a number who claim top be calvinists.

God in his sovereignty create man with the ability to make choices. God set the parameters of those choices though. Why should I give a hoot what calvinists believe. I have a hard enough time knowing every detail of scripture without spending one second studying what man things about God when I should be studying what God under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit had recorded about Himself.

I have read most of Calvin's works and find few "calvinists" can say that. Also I do not meet very many calvinists who would agree with Calvin in what he wrote. A lot of what they claim to believe is an exaggeration of what Calvin wrote. So if a calvinist does not subscribe to Calvin's theology then why claim to be a calvinist. That is like a Catholic claiming to be baptist because he believes in creation too.

I am still waiting for an exegetical interpretation of 1 Sam 16:14-15 in light of its historical context to come up with a theology of the origin of evil and God's sovereignty from any calvinist.
